So this is what happened.

My phone's battery status used to be around 50% and then all of a sudden it would shut down with the following message "battery drained handheld shutting down" after turning it on my battery would be around 1%.
Anyway last night while using my BB, my phone went completely off so I plugged it into the charger and went off to bed, this morning the phone didn't come even when I remove the battery.

Anybody know whats wrong or experienced the same problem ?

I don't have another battery to try as no one near me has a BB Bold 9700 also its not the charger as its working fine.

Take some earbuds and wet it with water on one side, use it to clean the battery contact points. Once that is clean, use the dry side of the buds to dry it. Don't clean the phone contacts.

Set your phone to Edge only and let it run a full charge. I've noticed that my phone lasts up to 3 times longer with Edge than 3G, you can switch it to 3G again after the problem is resolved (fully charged).

I have the same problem with my 9700.

No warnings at around 50% battery it just switches off. I then have to plug in my phone to get it to turn on again. :(

Switch to EDGE helped me while mine was working

Yea, but I would rather not use EDGE. VodaCom's BIS is already too slow on 3G.
I'm runing OS6 version 6.0.0.668. What OS are you on?
I have plenty free memory on my phone and it never locks up. The contacts on my battery are clean.

I've had my 9700 since April 2010 and I'll be ditching this phone next month for some Ice Cream Sandwich and Cell C.
