Streaming RWC games - Issues/Problems/Solutions

Yea, I will stick with Spotify, at least it is legal. I don't care for TV much. To be honest with you I don't care for it at all. I am thinking of taking my dish down today. Just out of protest. Let OpenView suffer just as much as MultiChoice. One gets the feeling that OpenView could have done more but didn't. So they can go burn as well. The only reason why I will continue to pay my SABC TV license is because it is a legal requirement and a fuking lawyer cost more.
Then why waste my time by asking me those questions?

I didn't know it was illegal at the time I asked it? That is fair is it not? If you are willing to break the law that is on you. You never mentioned it is illegal. So why not start with that first? "Hey it is actually illegal but you can do x y and z". That is why I added the never mind bit. At least I checked and made sure first. I already had a bad weekend I don't need this.

So the ITVX was a fail. Loaded it Thursday evening working fine. Yesterday morning I tested it a again and was running ITV2 for an hour or so. Just before the game, booom blocked. Don't know how. maybe they blocked everyone that joined the last day or two?
'Then switched to SABC app, sorry cant broadcast this content.
Luckily SABC+ worked perfect on the tv's browser.

So a bit buggered now for games that is not on SABC. Heard a few guys struggling with rugby pass and buffering, so also does not sound like a good option.
What VPN were you using?

Because MultiChoice blocked people from watching the first game, I think the world cup lost a lot of momentum in South Africa, I respected those around me and didn't take videos of countless people burning their Springbok T-shirts. But the backlash I think is real. I think MultiChoice singlehandedly killed rugby and the love for the game.

I don't understand our broadcasting commission. On the one hand they say SABC must go digital, now the digital viewers can't watch the games. I saw MyBB reporting on this here OpenView hits back at DStv over Rugby World Cup ban. The real world implications are going to be huge. More people will abandon DSTV as our economy continues to lose momentum.

Credit to all the bars and restaurants that changed the channels credit to all the people that cheered them on to do so. That is how South Africans stand together. Forget MultiChoice. they don't stand for South Africans they undermine us and attack us out of greed.

Even if MultiChoice allow the next games on OpenView the damage is done. It doesn't matter what they do, South Africans will treat MultiChoice with utter disgust and disdain.
You really are a joy a minute. Pray, tell, how exactly did MC block people from watching the game? All you needed to do was turn on a TV and tune in to SABC and boom. Or log on to SABC online. Or use the SABC+ app. Go cry somewhere else.

Which VPN was this on?
Ghost VPN and TOR was out for the full length of the game. I am not sure about other VPNs. But your ISP can block any encrypted connection. They can't see what you are doing but they can block it outright. Apparently they did. That brings to question the absolute hold MultiChoice have on streaming in general. They are very anticompetitive.

My viewing experience -

- Had no problems registering on SABC+. Viewing was smooth, no buffering, although I only watched the opening ceremony with them and not the match as I wanted to do testing.
- Watched the match on ITV using windscribe and a laptop connected to my tv with hdmi cable. Could watch the whole match, no buffering. What i did find was a constant change in the display clarity - Picture would go slightly fuzzy and then became sharp and clear. Would repeat throughout the game. a bit annoying but lived with it.
- Could not test Rugbypass, will try on a "irrelevant" match during the weekend.

As for the game - NZ started well but France grew in stature and composure during the game to win by a big margin in the end. Well done Froggies.

Not multichoice's fault the sabc are plonkers.

Here you can't even watch this on sky, it's on free to air itv.
Which isn't even a state broadcaster either.

For clarity, sky carries ITV. I meant on their own branded sports channels.

Right you do know that Analogue doesn't work in most areas right?

Well clearly DSTV, SABC and your ISP have conspired to restrict you from watching the RWC. It must suck being you and being targeted like this. It really is unfair that they're picking on you while the rest of this forum is littered with comments who streamed successfully last night. Perhaps you should consider moving to a less restrictive country who will go out of their way to celebrate your unique requirements.

Yes he/she will now make this a depressing thread and how the whole world is against them, like every other thread.

We used RapidVPN, we normally use it to watch ITVX, Channel 4, UKTVPlay & Blaze, and CyberVPN that we use To watch Channel 9, Crackle & Pluto TV

Getflix free trail. But I see on google that this might happen and ITVX constantly goes around trying to block VPN's. These cheap ones probably not sharp enough to go undetected.
I've seen quite a few comments that there weren't any issues using windscribe. It's a free sign up for the first 15GB per month - it might be worth giving this a try? If you want an extra monthly GB, drop me a PM and I'll send you a referral code.

If you need more than the free allocation, paid option is $3 per month for three locations which is cheap as chips.

I signed up with Nord this morning. I like Anime and can't get all the series here. Normally I use Tor for this but they got really slow lately.

Why make this about me? Do you know how many people asked about the VPN thing? Is it down or stuff like that. Not everyone had a good experience yesterday. Tor was exceptionally slow as well. Could be all the extra traffic on the ISP's side, who knows. But we do know a lot of stuff didn't work.
You're making it about you. Look at werner's post above, for example. He had multiple options to choose from and yet you find a way to complain.
