We will be setting up this adsl this holiday, could you please explain how to put the router in bridge mode? It is one of those Telkom Closer ADSL modems.
Thanks
um, I have the Billion Router. Hopefully someone who has the same as you can give more specific info. Try to give us the exact model number if you can... it is printed on the bottom of the router.
obviously ...
Log in to the router using your web browser. I hope you know how to do that?
Then....
VPI:8
VCI:35
Those are the same for all ADSL routers in South Africa... Annex A also.
then, look for a setting on the same page where you enter your ISP settings that says something like encapsulation... and there you should choose "Bridge Mode" or enable bridge mode.
When you do that, the box for your ISP username and password will disappear or go blank.
Save the router settings and reboot it.
Then go to each computer and do the following...
1) Click Start
2) Control Panel
3) Network Connections
4) Start the New Connection wizard and click next
5) Choose the following settings on each successive page..
6) "Connect to the Internet"
7) "Set up my connection Manually"
8) "Connect using a Broadband connection that requires a username and password"
9) Type in the Name of your ISP eg. WebAfrica
10) Type in your username and password that were given to you by your ISP
11) Select "Create an icon to this connection on the desktop"
That's it... you should now be able to dial up to your ISP from your own computer.
Now your biggest problem is going to be stopping the other guys from hogging the connection.
