Students - what phone do you use?

Most of my friends at UKzn Varsity have BB's and I'm the only one with an Android Samsung Galaxy S

They always envy my phone :D

I would have thought iPhone would be higher than Android with students?

im a student ;) i have an android and a BB.

but i agree most students have BB :/ " i can like to BBM for free ( cough R59 a month)" im at UJ... i would also say around 50% BB 20% randoms 15% nokias 10% Androids 5% iphones

and the reason iphones arent that popular is price, you can get an android on a "R300" contract, whereas iphone you pay out your @ss

depends on which faculty you looking at... Commerce/economics/the jock subjects = BB and Iphone win hands down.

I'm studying engineering, and it looks like either people can only afford not so smart phones, or if they can get smart phones, they Iphones or Android. There's a couple of people with black berries, but what I'm noticing is that with applications like Whatsapp, it's becoming stupid to suffer the disease that is Black Berry OS (I've played around on them, jesus it's a weird OS).

Looks like people are opting for getting Iphones/Androids with nice data bundles rather. Makes more sense.

Looking at my group of mates at uni (3rd Year engineer, tukkies)

3 X Android
2 X Nokia Expressmusic (5850??)
1X old samsung
1 x blackberry
1 x old nokia

Generally the girls tend to all have blackberrys from my experience. Guys tend to stick with whatever works for them/they can afford.

So as scotty said, I dunno if its just a study discipline thing but engineers don't really use BB as much as the jocky/commerce/BA people do. (Probably because we don't have time to socialise and just like to get stuff done ;) )

Most popular mobile phones and websites in SA (April 2011)

Top handsets for April 2011

The most popular mobile phones in terms of Opera Mini usage in South Africa remain largely unchanged from March 2011.

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic
Nokia 2700c
Nokia 2330c
Samsung GT-S5233a
Samsung SGH-E250i
Nokia 2690
Nokia C3
Samsung SGH-E250
Nokia 2710c
Nokia 7100s

And this is from the general population. I don't see a blackberry on that list and it's most likely cos this is based on operamini data BUT what it does tell us is that cheap dumbphones are VERY prominent.
