Hi

I am looking at buying a new car and my budget is ~R200k. Ideally I'm looking for something that is lighter on fuel and for mostly urban driving however I may need to do a long distance trip every now and then so it should be able to go a little.

So far I've test driven the Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL, Hyundai Grand i10 1.25 and Ford Figo Trend. None of them have totally convinced me so looking for some advice/suggestions.

Coming from a VW Polo 1.6, I really like the build quality but the fuel consumption is not the greatest.

Thanks!

Save a little more for now and wait till feb next year for this beaut! Instant classic and my new fave esp that blue flame colour

Nope. Still haven't shown me when the petrol price has decreased and has not increased again thrice.
Easier to leave once the eventual collapse of RSA happens as well.. haven’t you been reading NCA sub?

I know you want new, but could I suggest Demo. New cars lose at least 10% of the value when u drive it off the parking lot. and a demo usually is 10+% cheaper than new.

Just a suggestion, happy hunting. (Just remember a car is never an investment, so save where you can :) )

Maybe look at the Suzuki Baleno 1.4 GL instead of the Swift.

You won't get the same build material (soft plastics) and build quality if you buy new than if you had to get a slightly older vehicle, most of new cars in this price bracket are considered budget cars and are more geared to get you from A to B, the only new vehicle that might come close to your previous gen Polo would be the Peugeot 208 1.2 Active.

Used options you can consider -

Renault Clio

Opel Corsa

Opel Astra

Fiat Tipo

I saw the old Swift the other day, a 1.5l, what a thing of beauty, this new one is just a giant step backwards.

fiat tipo

Will give this a look, thanks

Picanto 1.2 Smart. Really nice interior and zippy.

There's a Kia dealership on my road so will take a walk there today, thanks.

Definitely open to demos, are there any specific brands/cars you'd suggest?
