Suggestions for a new car

I would say Europe/UK appreciates the Sandero for what it is.

Hi

I am looking at buying a new car and my budget is ~R200k. Ideally I'm looking for something that is lighter on fuel and for mostly urban driving however I may need to do a long distance trip every now and then so it should be able to go a little.

So far I've test driven the Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL, Hyundai Grand i10 1.25 and Ford Figo Trend. None of them have totally convinced me so looking for some advice/suggestions.

Coming from a VW Polo 1.6, I really like the build quality but the fuel consumption is not the greatest.

Thanks!
Im in a similar boat as you, so I decided to keep my Bakkie for longer trips and I got myself a VW Up for the day to day trips.

The Move Up has some pretty nice features and its very light on fuel.

I also looked at the VW Polo, Fors Figo, Honda Brio, Nissan Micra, the Toyota Aygo and Etios.

The insurance on the polo is high and it is definitely a high risk car, I also feel that the Up has way more comforts and features.

The Figo was the worst of them all for me. I absolutely hated sitting in it. Im sure Ford managed to get the most uncomfortable seats ever for them. The whole Kuga debacle also made me think twice about the brand.

The Brio just didnt appeal to me and I couldnt find many decent second hand ones.

The new Nisan Micra looks awesome, but is out of my budget. The older shape Micra is just not as light on fuel as the others.

The Toyotas were just too damn plasticy for me and they feel expensive for what you get. The etios wws the fastest of the lot, but again fuel consumption on thr 1500 engine was not great.

All in all the Up appealed to me the most. The 999cc engine does not have a lot of zip, but I think its more than capable of getting me to work and back through traffic.

+1 for the VW Up! as a brilliant car - 4 airbags plus ABS , EBD , Traction Control , Stability Control and a payload of 512kg. There should be more of it on the road.

You can PM if you are interested in the up OP, mine might be up for sale in December.
