Superfast USB 3.0

(in the words of Western Digital)... Is that the Sustained Rate speed or the Interface Speed?

:headache: yet another standard for us poor embedded people to try and implement with limited resources. As if USB OTG and 2.0 wasn't bad enough on cheap-as-hell 8 bit micorcontrollers.

I wondewr if they abandoned the wireless attempt in favour of just keeping bluetooth

there are Wireless USB devices out there already; USB 3.0 is a different standard.

@Turiko, you chose that field... I doubt a 8bit micro would be able to handle those data rates. I also think that USB 3.0 is backward compatible.

Seems I am not buying a motherboard anytime soon....

Soon we can boot into USB flash-drive ... True mobility. Yaaaay.

Vista can do that already :D I read an article about that, titled something like "An operating system in your pocket". Haven't tried it out myself yet...

Sure, if you have a 32GB flash... Vista wants at least 16GB... 16GB flash is 15GB in size. Also, the larger the flash the slower it gets. That's one thing I hate about my multi-gig flash. It's much slower than my 64MB flash drive was back then.

Well, try and tell that to Jewish bosses who INSIST THAT IT CAN BE DONE

TBH, I can't wait :p

This means, NO new PC, NO new Notebook and NO new flash drive for the next 2 years for me ;p

I've noticed that too. I think that most flash drives are USB2.0 and not USB2.0 Hi-Speed. The older flash drives had those "USB2.0 Hi-Speed" stickers on, but the newer ones don't.

Will the flash memory be able to sustain multi gigabit speeds or will we plug in a 3.0 flash drive or iPod and find that the speed is exactly the same?

Most likely. If you look at the current specs, only very few flash drives can write faster than usb 1.0 never mind anywhere near to usb 2 speeds

That's the thing with computing - you are only as fast as the slowest part of the system. I don't know if they are going to be able to make devices that can take the full speed of the new spec. Are there any other features that might make it worth the upgrade?
