Surprising FNB web browser notice

How do you support the claim that it should not have been shown to Firefox or Chrome?
By reading the original thread as well as reading the feedback from FNB.
That was really the spokesperson's job. This is not a web developer blog, so I don't think it's necessary that we explain how an <!--IF lte ie 7> tag works, and we can't put words in their mouth or make assumptions about what happened without justification for why we make those assumptions.
Fair enough those reasons make sense :o But wow that spokesperson really needs to get their act together. Their response doesn't address the issue at all. Oh well.

Internet Explorer has to make a commercial to get people to use it even though it’s already automatically installed in every pc.

there I've dealt with it

Commercial?

I like the layout of IE (have chrome installed and use it for only 1 website) and IE10 even has spell checker now lol.

EDIT:

Tabs above address bar?

I have windows 8 pro and use IE10. Why? Because it's optimized for touch and multi gesture control. Chrome on win8 feels chunky, slow and outdated. Like it does on Windows 7.

If only everyone read the full article. They made an error. This is just for customers using IE 9 and prior. Not Mozilla and Chrome users.

I would also switch banks than to use IE.

F**k it, no option to download the browser of your choice...

Online Internal Client Management IE7 - Promotion - FNB.jpg

In MS's pocket FNB?Surely a pop-up with links to Safari,Chrome,Firefox,Opera and....Internet Explorer 10> would have been appropriate. This alone would make me change banks if not for the inconvenience.

FAIL!!!!

Why should they link you to all browsers? You got there through IE so the only responsible thing is to assume that you want another version of IE. Calm down please

Options?Choices?Preferences? Why should I not have them?

The part of changing banks? Please, tongue in cheek, don't take everything seriously.Anyway, if it were the case as the story suggested
A number of Firefox and Chrome users were greeted with the troubling message..

I would not have necessarily gotten there via IE and therefore expect to be given the choice of staying with my preferred browser or upgrading my preferred browser if it's due for an upgrade and not be forced to MS's website.

Otherwise still a FAIL!! ...Whew! There now, I'm all calm.:D

Like I said in my initial post in the referring forum:

1. I am using only Google Chrome as my browser and was met with the message that my browser will not be supported after June.
2. I tested it with my iPhone and got the same message.
3. FNB referred me to Internet Explorer 10's download page - without giving me the option of another browser.

Yes, I was surprised at first and then outright mad!

4. Yes, FNB later said that it was only meant for IE 7 users.
5. They launched a piece of code (no matter how simple, small or irrelevant) onto their production server and it ****ed up.
6. There was not checks in place, which leads me to believe that any FNB coder can simply roll out some code without being checked. (Just imagine a pissed off coder at FNB and what he could do)

Again, no matter how big or small the error, it was fixed and should not have happened on a commercial banking website.

lol at all the frothing happening here.

IE10 isn't bad at all, it's just as good as Chrome is as they've come a long way since IE6. There will always be people jumping on their little soapbox making a noise trying to make themselves look important.

I hear what you're saying, but you must understand that only users using IE7 were ever supposed to see that message. So the original intenent of the developer was to assume you were an IE user and that is why they direct you to upgrade IE.
