Not surprising as this is the murder, rape, torture capital of the world:

Just read News24.com South Africa items everyday and see how sick and brutal this armpit is. No wonder no-one wants to come here. No wonder all civilized people want to leave!

Sour grapes from a german. Clearly someone did not get his way to give the world cup to [who was second in line again?] and now just keeps on whining.

Another German, thats what? 6 now?

if FIFA decide to pull the WC from SA, never gonna happen, it goes back to the last hosting country.................guess who ;)

It's such fun being exposed to all this crap again now that the new forum style no longer filters out current affairs from the news posts search request!

Don't worry about the tourists. Plenty of security for them. For tens of millions of South Africans on the other hand they will continue to be raped, assaulted and murdered in the streets while the tourists enjoy their football matches down the road.

I've lived here for over 2 decades now, been robbed once, and thats cause i work in the bank, never been raped, never been killed......i think

You do know where angola is right?
In the past 5 years we have been hijacked twice, robbed 3 times, and assaulted 5 times.
So I moved out of Gauteng.

Are you implying that I'm just unlucky?

Why is it that crime is completely ignored by the same people who have 6 ft walls around their houses, with alarms and electric shock fencing and sophisticated alarm systems, patrolling guards and other security based services?

Crime here IS real and dangerous, and, when somebody raises their concerns, people mock them. Hu?

The exact same thing was happening whilst the tourists were enjoying the rugby in 1995 and the cricket in 2003...so what's knew Alan?

 i have none of those, i'm taller than my wall, we have no alarm systems nor patrolling gaurd.

when crime did pick up in our area we took it up, a complete overhaul of the police station took place and now its down, as i mentioned in a thread a while ago i can only remember one attempted hijacking in our area over the last year

i live 10min from the city centre and a stone throw away from cleveland/jeppe

Maybe if you actually did something instead of running away there would be change, but you're probably like the others here who moan and whine and complain but never do anything

You must be as I am in the same boat as Pumpkin. One instance of being held up and that was while doing the banking for a service station after a long weekend. A lovely soft target. The only other incident was a break in at my flat while away for a long weekend. Yes, two too many but not bad going for 30 odd years.

Some of us choose to just not let it become the centre of our universe, the only thing we focus on and become preoccupied with. There is a difference between noting the existence of something and letting it preoccupy every waking moment of your life!

The "mocking" stems from the fact that all of a sudden we now have all the same crap being posted on here but now everyone has decided to give it a World Cup spin. Could you perhaps clarify the point of the original post? To bring to our attention that crime does exist in this country? To bring to our attention the fact that one individual is choosing not to come here because of crime?

You really must be unlucky. I have lived in JHB for 17 years, never been hijacked, robbed or assualted. The fact that you have been assualted 5 times makes me wonder if you dont go looking for trouble and might have made some enimies along the way. It is nearly impossible to get hijacked if you are aware of your surroundings, dont drive right up to the car in front of you and watch any troublesome looking people on the road.

Nothing at least for the 2003 cricket WC. In the near future we might get the Olympics and there will still be millions of people being murdered while living in tin shacks and sewage.

Who is mocking people, Charles Nqakula still? I thought everyone is acknowledging the problem with crime as it generally affects all of us.

If you cross the North Korean Border illegally you get 12 years hard labor.
If you cross the Iranian Border illegally you are detained indefinitely.
If you cross the Afghan Border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian Border illegally you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese Border illegally you may never be heard from again.
If you cross the Venezuelan Border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Cuban Border illegally you will be thrown into political prison to rot.

If you cross the South African Border illegally you get
? a job,
? a drivers license,
? a pension card,
? welfare,
? credit cards,
? subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house,
? a free education and
? free health care.
Perks include
? weapons of your choice.
And in South Africa you can
? murder,
? use drugs,

? rape

BUT PLEASE South Africans DON’T SMOKE - it is illegal
