SWC in SA a "BIG MISTAKE"!

2) It's not - I was just thinking of my Malawian manservant, and started ticking of the list. AFAIK he hasn't got a gun or committed any crimes, but as for the rest ?
Well done for not employing someone who crossed the border illegally.

Poor ticket sales for the World Cup have also been reported,
with a news conference on the issue scheduled for later on
Wednesday in Johannesburg.

How to pay for the huge extravaganza of money wasting? Gat-train and all!

I've lived here for over 2 decades now, been robbed once, and thats cause i work in the bank, never been raped, never been killed......i think

You do know where angola is right?

You do know where <insert some other random country here> is right?

Damn, now that you add that they definitely made a mistake having the SWC here in SA. We all know you are meant to alienate and shun people with HIV!

Safe to say the World HIV infection rate will be a notch higher after the WorldfCup

Jeese, some people are just itching for the WC to fail. I wonder if before the other big sporting events that we have had these people where saying the same load of drivel. Lets lay it all out for you. Their was crime in this country before the WC was announced to be coming here, There will be crime during the WC and there will be crime after. The WC is not responsible for creating, nor preventing this. IT'S A SPORTING EVENT. We just had a cricket series in this country and lots of British tourists where here, and if any of them where victims of crime, they did not blame it on the cricket did they.

Ronjay, it is not just the Soccer World Cup. There are people on this forum, and therefore part of society as a whole, who crave any opportunity to see South Africa fail. This just happens to be the biggest sporting event in the world with greater exposure and therefore more opportunities for the negativity mongers to gloat...

Yip, sad really. They are so busy trying to find things that are bad that they don't see the good. This is going to be fun ffs. 32 of the best football teams in the world (OK 31 if you don't count Bafana Bafana.) going to be playing football on SA soil.

Its a strange mentality that makes no sense.

Granted, we do not live in a perfect country (BTW can you show me one?) but at least be positive and try to do something about it. Get involved and make a difference.

To all those who want SA to fail: pack your bags and fsck off. Some of us do like it here, warts and all.

I know you are talking about the country as a whole but this thread is about the SWC so I thought I'd "brag" a little ;) I am awaiting feedback from my interview for volunteer work during the world cup. I have no desire to merely sit afterwards moaning about the success of the event, I want to play my part. And as someone not actually involved in the IT industry I was interviewed for IT & T based purely on my computer knowledge... I hope all those IT experts on here offered their services too? Especially the moaners!

Couldn't agree more. There is no room in this country for these losers anyway.

Good one. I'm also involved but from a different angle!

So now people who are raising red flags about the deplorable murders, rapes, tortures etc are the bad guys and want SA to fail..uhhmm where's the logic in that? So now we're the bad guys? I think that's insane!! Wake up people! The reason "normal" people are concerned is because its very real. Just read the daily horror news from this hell hole!

The SWC in South Africa will be legen... wait for it and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the next half of this world is... dary! Legendary!

there is nothing wrong with being concerned about the crime and deaths, in fact it's very noble. the only problem is equaling soccer world cup to disaster when there have been rugby world cups and cricket tournaments that have gone on without disaster or problems. this is a big thing for south africa, it's not going to change south africa dramatically but it's going to be part of our history and how the world will see us in the future. with the amount of negativity we get we'll have a chance to show the rest of the world(or the people that come) that south africa isn't a hell hole and a second zimbabwe. this also means a lot to many black people especially because they are constantly compared to other countries.

maybe the WC won't go well off, but we're going to try and that's important.

thanks so much for all the positivity in this thread guys :)
