People are so agitated about the WC. We all know what our country is like, we do live here after all. We'd really have to be in denial to think that the county has not got a problem with crime. Hell, we all know that we have to turn our homes into fortress's. And I for one wont be surprised if in the future, we are all wearing bullet proof armor to go to work. The thing is though, all the crying and moaning is not going to change this. Raising these issues is important of course, but the old adage actions speak louder then words applies. Remember though, that SA has not just fallen from the sky, out of nowhere, six months before the WC. There has been a lot of tourists coming to our shores. Yes a lot of those tourists have been victims of crime, but I would wager that this is a very small percentage of the total number of tourists that have come here. Remember too, that this is not the first time SA has hosted a major sports event and other international events where a large influx of tourists have occurred. Did tourists experience a sudden surge of crime against them?
Of course some tourists experienced crime, if not, then we would be unique as the first country not to have tourists at such events not do. But the majority, Probably as much as 95% (obviously my opinion, so don't jump down my throat if I'm wrong), had no problems at all. But I think SA is not the only country to have this problem.
So, are tourists all going to be murdered during the WC? That would be ridiculous. Will tourists experience crime? of course a few will. This would happen everywhere. Will SA be safe? The short answer, yes. The long answer, If you keep your wits about you. Steer clear of bad areas, when making tours of tourist spots remain in groups and use professional services. But this too applies to any country in the world. People are tending to see tourists as these thick sheep with absolutely no common sense even though they come from countries that are considered by these same people to be better then us in education, economy and socially. How did these countries get like that if their citizens are as thick as two planks. Give the tourists some credit.
And for the love of all things good, lighten up. This is a sporting event, it's supposed to be exciting and fun. Enjoy he spectacle that is Football at it's highest standard.
