SWC in SA a "BIG MISTAKE"!

The political asylum excuse won't wash, that guy in Canada will eventually be sent back - no country gives asylum for poor economic / crime conditions.

Now exactly where is this lower crime area in SA - AFAIK the crime rate on the top of the Drakensberg is quite high, serious risk of muggings ?

And your car analogy also fails. When I drive, I have some control over the influence of the other drivers on the road. I can see an idiot driving and try and avoid him. With crime, yes you get pointers to follow to minimize your risk, but in the end, if a criminal wants to do harm to you, he will and there's not much you can do about it.

3. Why do so many tourists come here if it really is so bad?

None of the SA FAIL Brigade ever answer these questions. I wonder why? Oh, yeah, it's because they know their version of the "truth" is woefully exaggerated and hypocritical. If they really where so concerned about tourists, they would have been far more vocal, far earlier on then 6 months before the WC.

But fear not, good patriots, their anti-SA propaganda campaign came to late. The WC will go on.
 
I don't think the SWC will be a failure. With all the resources, money, etc. being pumped into it, it will be a success.

However the way this country is being run in general is diabolical. A nice thing about the SWC is that it can be used to put a spotlight on the failures. The politicians are now doing the right talk prior to SWC but after it, it would most probably be business as usual.

Well, I have a couple of Masters degrees, etc, etc, but yes, I couldn't go anywhere ! The qualifications don't really help nowadays.

I also don't specifically want to go, you made that assumption when I said that you don't know what you are talking about.

It's just not that easy to up and go if you have an SA passport. Legally speaking, of course !

Exactly. The thing is the SWC is giving them some focus. It is allowing them to get back on their platforms and bleat about how bad things are. They are hoping that someone will take an interest if they bleat under the guise of protecting people during the world cup.

There is no doubt that someone will get robbed during the world cup and of course this will be just what they need to carry on bleating for another 20 years.

1. I asked question 1 because you are trying to make out SA is one huge cesspit of crime, it isn't and all countries have crime. Some have crime rates very similar to ours.

2. Because if you are trying to warn people only now that the WC is going to be on, it makes you look like you have an ulterior motive, like trying to derail the WC. It's a matter of credibility.

3. Did you actually read the question?

Those where poor answers.

There is no denying that this is a hell hole sespit HIV ridden drunk driver rapist muderer torturer butcherer haven. No matter how much perfume you pour on it this place is a turd Zim2.0 and Afghanistan2.0 wannabe! Case closed nuff said, so no argument can and ever will succeed in me telling friends and family or any tourist overseas that it is safe here SWC or not because I know the truth, have seen the pools of blood...and for what..in some cases just a cellphone!

The fact remains that tourists will have to be warned to be more circumspect than they are at home.

For example, don't hike (eg three Swiss nurses raped), don't just stop at viewpoints (Polish honeymoon couple killed/raped), don't drive into townships (many incidents), be careful where you camp (recent French women raped).

These things happen more often to tourists, usually because they do things that white South Africans wouldn't do, like visiting a shebeen or hitch-hiking.
 
Of course warning tourists to be more vigilant and cautious is important, but making out that the WC is drawing people to their deaths is another matter. Again, no one is denying that SA has crime. But to say to tourists "Don't come here because you are going to die" is actually very irresponsible. Warning tourists that if you come to SA, be aware of your surroundings and remain in a group, Avoid Areas that are problem zones, such as Hilbrow etc, Insure you have a professional tour guide when site seeing and other important info is of course necessary. But telling tourists that SA is a no go zone, well that is crazy. For one thing, you are trying to derail an entire industry, one that is a big contributor to our economy.

But maybe that is what people want, to see SA fail. So they can point fingers and say "NA-NA-NA-NA-NA, told you so." And they say that our country is great, but in the next breath want to make out that it's cr@p. I am a patriot and want to see my country succeed regardless of who is in power or who holds a bigger stick. I do not hide my head in the sand and say that we live in a paradise but I also see past the politics of the "SA is a dump" naysayers. Rather then constantly bemoan thye state of the country and then sit back and wait for something to happen, why don't these ones contribute towards changing things? Suggest ways to improve security for both tourists and citizens. Create a hand book that tourists can use to tell them the right way to approach being a tourist in SA. This was suggested in jest in another thread, but is actually a good idea, one that can be used positively to insure tourists are well informed on what they need to do to stay safe and still have a fun and happy experience in our beautiful land. And volunteering in some way to aid security or to provide information to police etc.

Just sitting at home and whining about our country does nothing. Look at LancelotZA and moggie, who have volunteered, each in there own way, to do something to contribute. What are the SA FAIL brigade doing? "Don't come to SA or you'll be raped, robbed and murdered". LancelotZA and moggie are far more patriotic and at least are contributing in a positive way. They get more respect from me then the ones that cry like babies and then wait for the cows to come home instead of hurdling them back.

So that is a 0.03% chance that a British tourist will be a victim of serious crime (and even then this is assuming that none of those deaths were natural causes or hospitalisation as a result of a self inflicted accident)! Now what was that someone was saying earlier about the chances of getting attacked by a shark being so minuscule as to make for a stupid comparison?!?!
