SWC in SA a "BIG MISTAKE"!

So your article relating to two idiots who thought they'd try and be big men and makes threats, when given a platform to do so, should immediately result in us throwing our arms up in defeat and admit that all the tourists coming to this country are in danger. Yet stats from the UK which show 0.03% of tourists in a given year required assistance (for things possibly relating to something other than crime) should just be ignored!?!?

Oh and 460,000 UK tourists in a year... so why the hell is their safety all of a sudden an issue for you now that the world cup is on and we'll have even greater police presence?!

What are your motives Lord A?

Lance you're running around in circles? Everything you say and every link you put up only supports my concerns! If SA didn't have a problem we wouldn't have this debate. C'mon admit it. Crime is THE major problem facing this country. Foreigners safety is a major issue. Making personal remarks (trolling) is just not helping your case. I have only one motive in this thread. That is to highlight the deplorable uncivilised state of this country. So far all your ranting has only reinforced the arguement that this is a major issue. Good luck with all your positivity. I pray that you will never have to face the heartache and loss that some of us have had to bear. God bless you.

Dus whats het grote probleem hier? hij kreeg problemen met betrekking tot de veiligheid, heb je ook problemen met de veiligheid, hoeveel van u ooit werd overvallen? iets gestolen?

Geez Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Everyone I know has been a victim of crime! I have personally lost people very close to me! All 3 murdered in two seperate incidents. One throat slit then drowned in a bath in a home invasion. Two shot dead in a carjacking. I've also been in an attempted hijacking, but was uninjured. My wife robbed twice (once gun point, the other knife). My house has been robbed. My car stolen. My parents house robbed twice. My neighbour shot in his driveway. My domestic worker was robbed in front of my house. One of my friends parents were shot dead on their farm. One colleagues at work's duaghter was robbed of her cellphone and raped on her way home from school...the list is long and that's only the beggining. But it seems I'm wasting my time here!

I pray that you will never have to face the heartache and loss that some of us have had to bear. God bless you.

....I'll refrain from further comment as you have major issues but you'd think someone with such apparent faith in God would accept that what is meant to be is meant to be....

EDIT : And that's Dutch.

Lance gives facts. You reports something that nobody can confirm.

I remember the SASucks website with horrific pictures about crimes in SA... but the pictures were taken in the USA...

Lance gives facts

The problem is that once your loved ones becomes victims of crime, all the stats in the world don't matter.

Now try and be happy once its happened so many times that you've lost count.

Crime is a problem in this country. A huge, serious problem. And failing to realise this fact makes you part of the problem.

I doubt that anyone denies this fact.

It is the linking of it to the prediction of a SWC failure that is an issue.

So i was watching AJE(and other random channels) briefly last night while fixing the sat dish and then they had a special on .. SWC SA 2010 and i figured kewl, lets see what they say.

  • 2mil of 3mil tickets are sold,
  • ticket sales hampered by the internet sales for locals(net penetration etc) long forms at banks, id checks for all mates etc,
  • perception of crime in country,
  • #COST, 8hr flight, big country between game cost, price fixing, limitation of flights(and associated cost) etc

Now you look at this list and guess what they pick up 1st.. crime. So they interview this leading soccer journalist and he says how he fears his life(Oh he has never been down here before but he knows so much about crime in SA vs tourists based on... news from townships), i mean the crimes in the townships are so bad and its like going into the unknown.. look what happen in Angola and the rest of the continent blah blah blah and then he moved on to the real reason there is slow sales.

Point? GROW THE F*** UP!! Seriously as a south african i feel like bitch slapping him with a fish what a dumb ass. Angola is like SA?? Townships, yah they gonna stay there in hotels and visit? I've never been to one and i've been here all my life? I've never been involved in crime either and why? because i take basic simple precautions. If you want to do stupid things, be a victim etc then fine but admit that you are an idiot but dnt talk **** on the news.

Crime is ****ty yes but aside from the horrific ones(which also happens in other places, its just easier to get away and do it here in SA) that are very planned, there are a lot of opportunistic ones where victims are just being damn stupid. Then they have interviews with 'people' of SA, some said crime is bad etc but gov is doing something and they feel ok. But then you have this white chick on tv saying how she is afraid of for her life to walk in alleyways and dark corners at night(LMFAO uhm common sense says you don't venture down those late at night hon ;)) BUT seriously, its damn funny she says she is scared to walk around and yet they stopped her as she was walking down the road? lol.

If you watched the report you'd realise that crime, while a HUGE factor is an excuse of a reason. The real one is location, distance and unknown factor of it. After this world cup is done you will see, the world will be in a 'i should've gone' sentiment especially when pictures of our country is on display.

2010/11 summer we will be flooded with tourists if the WC goes with little major crime(besides the oh i forgot all my money/items in the hotel/beach and the cleaning/passing person stole it crap) as i know a LOT of people who are waiting to see the WC before coming.

I have never denied anyone their right to wallow in their own misery and self pity. The fact that they choose to use these tragedies to ruin the country further is what pisses me off. What does telling as many people as possible not to come to this country achieve besides trying to drive it into the ground. Now is that fair? Should every South African suffer because a few individuals chose to attack someone's loved one? You being pissed off does not give you the right to ruin it for everyone. Hey, if you are so pissed off with crime and the tragedies experienced by "loved ones" then join the police reservists and do something about it. Volunteer for the world cup. There are plenty positions offering support and advice to tourists. I'm sure this would help a lot more than some anonymous bitching and complaining on a forum!

I am praying real hard for you moggie and lance ;)

You are praying that we will become as negative as you are? Thanks but no thanks. Rather use your prayers in the hope that you can get over your apparent tragedies and start living your life.

The whole thread be damned coz it doesn't sway me either way but what I've bolded from your quote really ticks me off. You've had no instance of crime so anyone who has, is an idiot in your book? That's just a stupid outlook

So only stupid people are raped, mugged, shot at in malls, hijacked..?? Oh and btw major crime is happening in broad daylight in populated tourist hotel destinations all the time..eg Cape Town, Sandton etc

I am praying real hard for you moggie and lance ;)

Pray for yourself.

I'm grown up and look after myself and my family. I am active in the CPF in my area where we have a proactive impact on crime.

l show my family the no-go areas around town and we share the opinion of "if in doubt, don't go".

I am not naive about crime in our country, or anywhere else in the world.

Read my last post carefully.

We have a serious crime problem - fact.

Crime will cause the SWC to fail - opinion.

Whenever a person so furiously defends their position it is usually because they are wrong, realize it, and to proud to admit it. Yes I am praying a lighting a candle for "potty mouth" ;)

I can use the same argument for you. The fact that you are delusional and think everything is OKAY is creating a false sense of security. Now is that fair for the people coming to SA?

No. They must know what the risks are.

Should every tourist suffer because a few individuals chose to attack the people who speak out against crime?

I agree, the better informed they are, the better change they have to survive.
