Swimming Pool resurfacing

Thread necro!

Opened my pool and found a bit of a horror! Thought I could fix it but three weeks later - may need to admit defeat.

it looks like the marblelite in my 10.5m x 6.5m has given up the ghost. The top portion of the pool which was acid washed when coping and surrounds were renovated a few years ago, now have ingrained algae stains that won't come out.

Just replaced the sand in the filter as it was finished and stinking. The guys from Pool team did the work and checked everything else. The guy says best option is to paint with Fibreglass instead of redoing marblelite? He also recommended that it is cheaper to just dump and get new water as the bladders are too expensive to rent and it's like a 7 day job to do the fibreglass, etc.

So i still don't know what the prices would be - waiting for a quote. But I know water is going to cost me about R6-7K (if there are no penalties for about 120KL).

Thinking Fibreglass paint would be great (if I understood the guy properly) as it would reduce algae in the future and make it easier to maintain. Need to do more research on the EPOXY.

To those who participated in this thread, how are your pools holding up after a few more years since your renovations.

I just had my pool re-marblilited. Friend of the family offered to acid wash for me but when I heard he was going to drain it, I asked can we not just redo the marbilite, not free of course but pointless just draining the pool.

He says he quoted me cost for materials etc which was really reasonable so I quite happily paid. The redid my light and changed sand too. Came out awesome. Its a small pool so not that expensive and they also acid washed the rocks.

Dude, I am so with you. Make two big holes, and then make a new garden/braai / fire pit area. The SO - overrules everything!!

I filled the pool in June 2017, on completion of the tiling job. This pic was taken a few seconds ago. I'm still 100% happy that we tiled the pool. Best decision that we could have made. It's MUCH easier to keep clean and it looks great. Dirt just doesn't stick to the tiles surface.

Your pool just looks amazing and the best part you did it all yourself!! Kudos! I would like this, but I really would not be able to afford it (including just a normal renovation) but we are where we are!

Nice. If I may ask how much did it cost you just so I have a ball park figure to base my assumptions on.

Don't use my figures as the guys just purely charged me materials and labor, no markup. Was a friend of the family.

But I believe even a small pool that size is somewhere north of R12k maybe, it took them quite a lot of time to chip and then come back and do the surface, basically two days labor.

Enjoying my pooless house now with zero issues of maintenance and water wastage etc :)

Yup, after owning a house with a pool for the last three years; I wouldn't buy again with a pool to be honest. But the house is on sale now and the only houses in the UK with a pool are well out of our budget and not common at all.

Check this product out https://africhem.co.za/product/africhem-oxidise-50-peroxide/ but be sure to read the instructions carefully. Get a pool brush with the orange bristles, add that oxidise and start scrubbing.
