Switch 2 thread

I still have 2 problems if they shoot to high.

Price
Battery life

The reason the original Switch still rocks vs Steam Dec and friends is
A) Its affordable (also See Switch Lite if you cant afford full version)
B) Power consumption vs weight is also perfect, we can play for hours without the need to carry a battery backpack or exo skeleton to hold it for hours.

Breaking that will make alternatives more attractive.

How reliable is this guy? Sounds a bit too sure of himself.

That 4K number looks very sus, and unlike Nintendo, but not impossible... All I want is 1080x60FPS with all the bells and whistles. I'm taking their adivice: I'm on a plane to Nvidia to ask the important questions.

Yeah he's pretty solid at least with Nvidia news and i think everything he says matches what all the other rumors are saying

I think 4k wil most likely not happen for ports of newer AAA games. They'll probably target 1440p or even 1080p. But for first party games it's quite possible.

What he says is there's a big difference going from the performance targets of docked and handheld. So i still guess it'll be 1080p portable and docked it'll be capable of 4k but it'll depend what the specific games target.

I've been here before. It's nice to speculate and discuss (and fight sometimes) about the Switch 2, but it's building up again. That familiar feeling of childlike excitement and glee and hope and fairies and rainbows and stuff.

Down boy. Down.

Lol well we pretty much know everything about Switch 2 at this point except for some important details like clock speeds, ram, screen resolution, battery life. But otherwise the chip is a very known quantity and the Digital Foundry video on it was a pretty accurate idea of how it'll perform. Digital Foundry also had a video about the Switch1 when it released that was completely accurate.

If you look at Xbox Series S, most games aren't trying to do 4k but a few games do like Crysis Remastered. It's more like a maximum possible resolution. But to be realistic I think only smaller games like indies and some first party games because Nintendo don't need to push graphics that hard will actually do 4k.

Since it came out that the next gen Switch is pushed back most likely till early 2025 it's been pretty quiet on the leak front. But last week accessory maker Mobapad put out an article that made some interesting claims about the system.

Among other things they claimed that the joy cons will use magnetic rails instead of the sliding mechanism.

The details were seemingly corroborated by Pyoro who is probably the most credible leaker out there:

The screen will be upgraded to an 8-inch display, supporting 1080P resolution.
Dunno about this one... but I'll give Ninty the benefit of the doubt: battery life > performance. And with DLSS the thing should (T&C apply) run efficiently. And it looks like BC is all but 99.9% confirmed. Everything else is secondary to me.

I wonder how Shuntaro Furukawa must feel. His first console launch as CEO...

(I miss Satoru Iwata...)

Hoping to get one day one or thereabouts. Also hoping price is not too expensive.

Wishlist:
- BC
- Free patches to "upgrade" OG Switch titles
- Blazing fast loading and saving
- Save states/suspend for at least two games
- 12 to 16GB RAM
- Same minimalist UI
- Sound settings per user profile
- Voice chat baked into OS
- Controller to have built-in audio jacks for headsets
- Native 1080p60 baseline for docked mode
- No nextgen tax for games
- Bigger (looks like this is confirmed) and more ergonomical and more reliable Joy-Cons
- A way to save games offline. Don't wanna pay for that.
- More responsive eShop
- Accept my SA bankcard to make game purchases, you swine.
- Voucher for 500g cocaine and booze with every purchase

Analogue triggers.

Analogue triggers.
Can't say I miss them. Last used those on Gamecube on a Nintendo console. Using them on Series X felt pretty weird when playing Fortnite. But I can see this beong implemented on the new Pro Controller, not so much the new Joy Cons.

The current Pro Controller is near perfect.

Wishlist addition:
- Proper D-Pad for all controllers, you swine

1536 CUDA Cores, 48 tensor cores, 12 RT cores
Ampere architecture with features backported from Ada
8x ARM A78C
File decompression engine
12 GB LPDDR5X RAM 7500 MT/s
256 [GB?] UFS 3.1
Rumours floating around via shipment info 'analysis'. From FamiBoards (which is down ATM)... ResetEra has also picked up on the rumour.

It begins...
