Sydney hits record 45.8 deg

Equating super-volcano or meteorite level extinction events with anthropic greenhouse gas induced climate change is bizarre at best.

How is that so? You don't think massive volumes of lava rising up to the surface can affect local atmospheric conditions prior to the eruption?

There was no equation....

Why is it so hard for people to understand that the coldest winter in Israel, India, ukraine etc is still ocurring within the hottest average temperatures across the globe year after year for the last 14 years, the last 36 years being higher than the 20th century average.

Take aside Sydney's 45.8 and 42.5 last week. Usually Sydney city doesn't get over maximum low to mid 30 because the sea breeze gives you a temperature differential over 30 or 40km to the west of up to 8 deg. These latest teps were due to the north westerly bringing the hot interior tempratures from west to east hence the same temps across the whole metropolitan...so this is not regular, take it aside if you will.

But the bottom line is despite the disengenuity of the sceptics throwing those cold temperature at the gullible , ..the deniers always pull out the old staw men from the top drawer beacsue they don't understand science- the average temperatures have only gone up over the last 36 yrs, the hottest 10 years are in the last 14 yrs, 2012 was the 9th hottest across the globe- which last time I looked included Israel, India and Ukraine- this year will have an el nino and is unlikely to be cooler despite NASA preditions.

Face it, the temperatures have only gone up, they will only go up ...unless you have your head in the sand, which btw helps ostriches keep their heads cool in hot weather.

Now deal with it too and stop posting rubbish about isolated cold winters as if the whole globe is colder.

Meanwhile.. outside my flat..

Extreme weather events happen all the time. Whether (scue the pun :p) they occur more often now than before is debatable given the facts about what we do know now.

Also, study after study demonstrate that the current warming does not appear to be anything special since the earth have experienced warmer periods before e.g the medieval warm period.

BUT, is that because of global warming, or a natural occurrence like a super-volcano pumping lava up the surface in preparation for another gush that will cause an ice age? Do you have the definitive truths, because I am always willing to listen to logic?

45.8C ... yikes that must have been hot as hell

Try King William's Town about 4 years back - 45ºC during Summer, at lunchtime, at best, and -5ºC at lunchtime in Winter!

Sydney today hit a record 45.8...since records kept anyway. In the western suburbs it hit 46.5.

article

last Tuesday we hit 43 deg when the country experienced its second highest average maximum of 40.2 (the highest of 40.3 a few days earlier).
Last year we had record rains, with our dams overflowing in March.

I think in the USA 47 states had the highest average ever temp across the year last year.

10 of the highest global averages have I believe come in the last 12 or 13 years.

I wonder if people still deny Global warming

Gotta go jump in the pool now, 6:30pm and still 36 out in the west

Australians will turn black one day.

Time-frame.

Well, I am not a geography fundi, but it makes sense that the dinosaurs were either wiped out by super-volcanic activity, or a meteor, millions of years ago. To assume the same couldn't happen to us in an instant is naive. Since man is relatively new to earth, we haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the apocalyptic nature of Mother Earth, or the Universe.

Pffft. Recently a friend measured 48 in Vredendal, and as a child we had one day of 52 in Oudtshoorn (as measured by the SANDF if I recall).

One must also note, that there is a huge difference between

45 dry heat and 45 with 80+% humidity, trust me its waaaay different.

Uh, yes. We were talking about anthropic climate change, not cataclysmic events.

Can you tell me where that is happenning to create this pattern?
At the moment we have definite measurements of CO2 content and other gases in abundance due to industrial activity...we know that. We also know the temperature trends plus other global warming parameters that people don't know about...we know this.

I am willing to listen to logic too

Yes, yesterday and last Tuesday with the northwesterly had humidity in mid teens and when you got out of car it "wow, that is hot" but not sweaty.
When we have the usual high temps of say 30 in city and 36 out west i.e. sea breeze then the humidity is high and it is less bearable.

The only reason I am writing this post if because I know you have the ability to understand the science if you look at the information so its late at night and I wanna show you the evidence.

Fact: CO2 is a greenhouse gas. They cause the earth to increase.
Fact: CO2 levels are increasing quickly.
Fact: We are taking CO2 out of the ground and putting it into the air.

To argue that this is not the reason, you need to show us A) CO2 is not increasing or B) CO2 is not a greenhouse gas.

Its kinda really that simple.

But you said you are willing to listen to logic. Is it logical to assume you know more about climate change than the combined ability of just about every respected climate scientist in the world, and every respected scientific institution in the world? Without having any training in the sciences?

An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system... There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities.[5]
The main conclusions of the IPCC on global warming were the following:
The global average surface temperature has risen 0.6 ± 0.2 °C since the late 19th century, and 0.17 °C per decade in the last 30 years.[6]
"There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities", in particular emissions of the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane.[7]

No scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion; the last was the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, which in 2007 updated its 1999 statement rejecting the likelihood of human influence on recent climate with its current non-committal position.[10][11] Some other organizations, primarily those focusing on geology, also hold non-committal positions.

I wouldnt even begin for a second to pretend I know better than all the scientists and governments around the world combined. Either you really are a savant with insight missed by everyone, in which case you deserve a nobel prize...

Or a person who claims better is an egotistical idiot who doesnt realize how stupid they are and you are being used by big oil and big coal (this is not directed or insinuated at you and is completely general).

If you really think you have an argument, please see this website: http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php

It deals with the most common lies, arguments and perceptions of climate change denialists.

How many of these can you spot in this thread?:
climate.png

For instance, that climate change is "natural".

- Is global warming part of a natural cycle? No: http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warming-natural-cycle.htm

One of the most common lies told in this debate by one of the forums bigger fibbers is that global warming is caused by the sun (yes, we all know the sun warms the earth and is the source of our energy, but its not the reason for this temp increase):

http://www.skepticalscience.com/solar-activity-sunspots-global-warming.htm

Im sure if you read back in this thread you can find the false argument about how the planets warming is somehow evidence that its the sun. As per usual its false:
http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warming-other-planets-solar-system.htm

Finally, yes, we are causing the CO2 : http://www.skepticalscience.com/human-co2-smaller-than-natural-emissions.htm

EDIT : Has the "Antarctica is gaining ice argument been used yet? http://www.skepticalscience.com/antarctica-gaining-ice.htm
