Takealot explains issues with payment system on Black Friday

Takealot gave me notice that they will, as the vendor, reverse any double transaction that may have occurred.

Browsing the site i haven't seen an issue, seems they were better prepared this year compared to the last in terms of keeping just the main site up

Did my transaction for my order and paid by CC at 3:43.

Got email at 7:59 that indicated payment received.

Got another email at 8:37 that says they are awaiting payment for my order.

Just noticed the same happened to my transaction.

I only hit 1 error 500 at around 00:15, but I was logged out several times. However, they dropped the soap once I entered checkout.

I refuse to use a EFT system that requires me to give my Internet Banking login details on a 3rd party.

So I queried on the takealot website at about 8AM and got a response now asking for proof. Anyways, sent what I could, but surely they should be able to see it on their side that there are two payments for a single order number?

Most banks reverse double payments automatically. My Credit card and Cheque Account I don't have to worry about double paymens.

Just talked to ABSA, they told me that they are unable to reverse any transaction and that the transaction must be disputed with the vendor.

This is what Takealot replied to me,

Hi (Name withheld)
Thank you for shopping our Blue Dot Sale and sorry for any concern caused over your payment.

We have picked up your order number and currently doing a manual check to confirm your funds have been received.

As soon as we have confirmation we will process your payment and you will receive a payment confirmation.

Rest assured, if any double payment has been received we'll make sure that it's reversed as well.

In the meantime, we've deactivated the credit card payment option until our payment partner has restored their service.

If you plan on doing more shopping please try one of our alternative payment methods like Instant EFT via i-PAY in the meantime.

Kind Regards.

I tried to make payment 4 times by credit card, an error occurred in each process and I was redirected to my unpaid order to try again. By the 4th time, I realised that I will have better luck later, and it also then indicated on their site to use EFT by i-Pay, but then 35 minutes later the 4 payments entered the clearing cycle.

The 1 transaction was cleared and approved, the last one that I made, but the other 3 are uncleared but it is limiting out my available credit and ABSA is unable to reverse those unless it is instructed so by the vendor.

This is not a day that I have time to go to war.

This is their credit card payment partner, right?

Are your Absa payments in uncleared or are they already cleared?

They claim the payment gateway let their customers down, but who forced Takealot to not have any redundancy?

Also, their Black Friday deals are almost exclusively crap. Shame on Takealot.

Every year same ****

They actually did better than previous 3 years. Site was not down for hours, people could actually shop and yes sure the switching was ****ed up. I suspect they do not control the actual switching but their payment providers does.
