Hey guys,

I ordered something from takealot, but it when it arrived it wasn't working so I logged an exchange on their site. Anyone know how the returns work exactly and how long it usually takes?

On the Takealot site it states that the courrier will pick up the old package when they deliver the new one, but in the email that I received they say that they first have to evaluate the returned items when they recieve it.

Thanks

Yes, that's how it works...

1) You notify them of fault.
2) They send Courier to collect the faulty item
3) They receive faulty item and inspect it.
4) They then notify you of replacement or refund.

Follow up after a week between points 3 and 4.

Hey fellas,

Just to clarify the returns / exchanges process :

If you logged an item to be returned then Garyvdh is absolutely correct. We collect the item and evaluate it to determine the problem. Once the problem is identified and the return approved, we then replace and dispatch the new item.

However, if you log an exchange and simply want to swop the item for something else, the courier will collect the old item and deliver the new one simultaneously.

If you're ever unsure, or want more details, please call us on 0861 222 989 or email us on [email protected]

Cheers!

Ah ok thank you, that makes sense. I see I selected the "product damaged" option instead of the "exchange for other" option. But I actually just want to exchange for the same product...?

Exchange for other (not another which you probably thought it said) is for e.g changing a Cpu (Intel) for a different make Cpu (Amd) not the same type/make/model

so product damaged is the correct one, which you chose

Bump.

Anybody know if they give you your money back, or is it strictly store credit only?
Product not damaged, I just changed my mind. It's been less than 7 days.

You sure? I've been told it's only credit.. I have had a money refund when a product I ordered was out of stock.
But this is simply a case of me changing my mind.

They give you a credit, which can be withdrawn into your bank account of choice by emailing them and requesting it. So it's really a cash credit.

Ah thanks! That's really helpful.
The process of e-mailing them and requesting this is straight forward and hassle free I hope?

It takes 24 to 48 hours for them to get to your email. Other than that, no hassles.

Excellent. It appears that your version is in fact backed up on the website, but I only found it in the Exchanges & Returns section of the FAQ's and not in the lengthy exchange and return policy, unless I missed it. Also my e-mail regarding it was responded to today with the same thing you say.

Great to see such wonderful service, that's why I don't hesitate to shop there.

So if the product is damaged or defective and you replace it they bring a new product when they collect the damaged or defective one

No. They collect the damaged/defective one and take it for assessment. Once it has been assessed they will send out a replacement/refund.

Does this email still work lmao

If it does you basically going to enter a customer service nightmare merry-go-round. You'll never get to the same person twice. Doesn't matter how big or heavy the item you want to return is, they will insist on sending a motorbike to pick it up. So they can't take it back, can't take it back, can't be assessed, can't be assessed can't be refunded or replaced. Eventually you'll tire of it and either hand it over to the consumer ombudsman and they will eventually sort it out or you'll go away. Takealot hopes you'll do the second option but combined with a third option of you'll carry on stupidly doing business through them.
