Tankadin

Was checking gear scores now per Realm.

You're ranked
#8 in the Paladin ranks
http://armorylite.com/score/eu/ravenholdt/2

I'm only #51 on my Realm :o Out of only 69 Paladins on our Realm both sides :D

edit:
See now you guys only have 48 Paladins.

I honestly thought there is more Paladins, no wonder so few people understand the tanking of Paladins....

i think that thing is a bit out dated, we have a ton of paladins on the server, alot more than 48, we have just over 10-15 in our guild alone

thank god teddy tanking is easy. Not like all this crap you guys have to spam /happydance

Bear tanks are nice, but they suck at aoe tanking and large mobs. Thats why i prefer pally tanking in that regard, bear tanks are most likely the best for the large hits like plasma punch from mimiron. I did log my combat last night, will post it on wws tonight. When we did it, i was getting hit for about 25k-30k. And sacred shield and holy shield did not really do that much for mitigation of the damage.

Our druid tank has 52k HP when buffed and flasked, i sit around 42k, thou once i have my jc and bs up i should be in the regions of at least around 44-45k buffed of course. I think that warrior tanks are getting the short end of the stick thou, or perhaps they are balancing out paladin tanks now, giving them a place at also being MT's, thou warriors still have better damage mitigation, shield wall i think.

You tanking boys will love Iron council hardmode.
Old steelbreaker hits like a bulldozer on steroids. 30 / 40k fusion punches. Not too mention the debuff thing he leaves, that ticks for another additional 20k per tick after the punch.

Quite funny listening to the tanks + healers shout at each on Vent to prepare for massive damage burst incoming. Very intense battle for tanks + healers.

Dono hey,

The gear is pretty up to date. Only my Libram is missing which I added last night if I checked correctly. Might be indexed chars only, no idea.....

Don't remind me, I crap myself with that fight, and the yelling at the back at our dk to run out of the bloody nova thing :P

We've done iron council hard mode already, suffice to say it was not so sucessfull, then again my GM is saying ok kill x first, as i was tanking steelbreaker, so they killing him, and my boss starts hitting me fking hard. Guys this guy is hitting me alot harder, "LARGE HEALS ON WINTERMUTE, LARGE" 4 healers just spamming the **** outa me, we wiped like 3 times. The GM says ok, lets try normal mode:| we 1 shot him:p

Yea I love the manner in which the tanks state :

"Ok guys... I am gonna die in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 **splat**"

NEXT TANK GRAB STEELBREAKER !!!!

Healers - "FFS aarghhhh cant heal harder... bashing keyboard"

We dps classes nuke our schlongs off and if one person dies, you gotta do it over hehe... fun fun fun :)

dps have it easy, when i play my elemental shaman its , stand back and just hit buttons...

as a tank you get some fking warlock, climbing to your threat, next min he gets agro, battle stations...

Naah not really guys... its not just about standing in the back and pewpew'ing.
Well ... if you have nab low dps producing guys then yes it is.
From a MM hunter perspective, its one of the most challenging fights since standing in the "fire" which in this case is a rune on the ground is actually a GOOD thing hehe.

I love that fight, but yes its more a fight designed to stress test the tanks + healers. If dps doesnt dish out enough damage within the given time, you never make it.

Hordir and Mir make our healers whine like little girls, i actually thought our shaman was gonna cry the first time we did Mir :P

The mimiron fight got me into big k@k with the raid leader MT a few times...
Waaay back in the beginning of ulduar before they nerfed the landing times of the rockets.

Raiding at 450 ms on bad nights at that time, it seemed impossible to move away in time from the rockets. Byt the time you saw the circle on the ground, you are actually allready dead. Nowdays its pretty easy, but yes I can totally relate to what you are saying with healers that whine on those encounters hehehe.

Hodir was horrible in the beginning, but once you do the hardmode kill, its one massive race... our pala RL / MT dude does an amazing job at holding aggro even while the entire raid dishes out insane amounts of DPS with all the damage multipliers on that encounter. Seriously I am glad I dont play a tank.

Pugged 25man on my priest, doing hordir recount decides to act up and I am sitting on 2fps for the fight as mt healer, somehow I managed not to fail the freeze but yeah, having tanked and healed that fight I am glad I don't play dps, I tend to fall asleep at my keyboard :P

Ok back on topic :p

I'm at a point now where my gear is starting to shape up pretty nicely. Now I have spoken to other Paladins in our guild (Tankadins) and I was shocked at this part

Tankadin - "Yipee I now have 33k HP unbuffed"
Me - "What is your Avoidance+Block %?"
Tankadin - "45% without HS"
Me - "Ok so you stack HP but you're not even Block capped?"
Tankadin - "Huh?"
Me - "You still take direct hits from a boss without Blocking or avoiding them...."
Tankadin - "You don't know what your talking about"
Me - "Ok then, I'm not your healer :p"

Short time goes by

Tankadin - "Hey, WTF are you saying?"
Tankadin - "You think you are going to be MT on the raids? LOL"
Me - "I never said that. I wanted to know if you have 33K HP if you are Block capped aka no direct hits, all hits are either avoided completely or blocked"
Tankadin - "You don't know what your taking about...."
Me - "Ok"

Little more time goes by

Tankadin - "Damn noobs who think they know everything"

I left it there.

Now this got me thinking a bit, this guy is a very good tank. I'm not putting him down at all. But seems like the healers are doing all the work to keep him alive because he doesn't know his class.....

With the avoidance+Block value with Holy Shield up at 102.4% means you will either not get hit at all, or the damage you take will be reduced via your shield block. NO direct hits what so ever. Which is easier for the healer?

No wonder these fsckers are having a massive problem in Ulduar currently. And the reason they have to leave one DPS spot open for another healer....

I love the work one needs to put in on Tanks to make sure your Toon is IMBA. Never had to do this much reading, research on any other toon. I'm prob reading/researching more of my play time than actually playing :)

So for future reference:

Dodge, Parry, Block+HS should add up to 102.4% to avoid all direct hits.
Once you start going over the 102.4% start swapping out Block with Dodge/parry but keep the cap at 102.4%

I think the problem is getting a balance between, Avoidance+Block (102.4%) and then keeping you Stamina up also. And this is the tricky part, I have new Epic gear which I currently can't use because I'll drop from 541 Defense which is a no-no.

I need 541 Defense, 102.4% avoidance+Block and then also around 32k HP unbuffed.
This is going to be a true toon tester :D (Lots of work to be done still :p)

My lvl 47 tankadin owns any class in pvp - except a retri pala. try as i may i wil lose the duel. even when i go all out the other pala barely loses a tenth of his hp while i lose everything! i have fairly good gear for my lvl. any ideas on what to do?

Remaining Block capped is overrated imo.

When a Boss is hitting you for 25-30k. Blocking 1500-2000 of that is not that much. Yes at the end of a long fight it can total to alot of damage "MITIGATED"(Block is NOT Avoidance, Its Mitigation, Like armour)

The issue comes in where a boss can 2 shot you(2 Hits that are not avoided) Theres a few of them out there now

This is why, if i was still tanking. I would still be stacking pure avoidance and stamina over Block
Block and being block capped is nice when aoe tanking things that dont hit hard, where you can mitigate quite a bit of damage

Even with the changes to Block Rating, I still think that block is a bit moot, Considering the content being done now

That said, my pala's Avoidance is at 100.5% atm, without even concentrating on Block

my2c

btw, Ive seen you say this a few times

I need 541 Defense (Lots of work to be done still :p)

You need 540 defence to be uncrittable by a level 83(boss) and 535 for heroics (Level 82)
