TCL TVs

Anyone have experience with Expert Stores? This bloody thing is calling my name but I am a bit apprehensive to go with a retailer I've never used in the past:

They are one of the good ones. I have bought a lot of audio equipment from them over the years.

I pulled the trigger on the Hisense 85U7Q Pro at Hirsch for R24 999 (and a free soundbar ).

Can't wait for TCL to figure out whether they will stock the C7K and C8K at major retailers. You can only get up to 75" in the C8K and then an 85" C7K is available at only one retailer. Crazy distribution system, I hope it works out for them.

But for R25k to get an 85" 165Hz panel, Mini LED with 1024 dimming zones, quantum dot and 2000 nits brightness, I don't see a better option. The only downside is Vidaa, but that's an easy change with a media box.
You have a link to this or is the special done?

A few of the more recent model spec comparisons in this.
Don't think we get the V's here nor does it mention about what the L's are.
I recently grabbed a 43T6C that i intend to use as a fill in tv whilst service gets my broken c755 sorted out and it's fine.
Planning to try use it as a monitor once my main tv is back.
Service in Durban at least is pathetic, 2 weeks so far.

About to see how service goes with these guys, 55C755 brought November 2024 , decided to turn off & has no power now.
Brought thru HiFi Corp, dropped it off there today.
Guessing power board unless it has a fuse on it.

Finally looked at today, the mainboard they are needing to replace, parts to come from jhb.

Broke April 11, sorted May 6. Jnb no C755 mainboards so replacement or credit, down to a C6k.
BS experience chasing people otherwise likely another few weeks added on.

Eish sorry man. Not even the option for an upgrade rather?

What about the 55P8L?

So far for what i've seen C is normally > P
This C6k is ok as i don't use it in the daytime but it definitely has less of a oled look to it versus the C755.
I'm really not that fussy so the C6k is ok.

I'm torn between the two atm, hence why I asked. Good ol trusty ChatGPT says the below

🧠 What actually matters in real use

🎬 Movies & series (your main use)

  • C6K: Already very good—bright, colourful, strong contrast for the price
  • P8L: Noticeably better blacks, HDR control, and processing → more “cinematic”

👉 If you watch a lot of dark scenes (Netflix, HDR movies), the P8L will look more refined.

What that means in practice

  • C6K (2025):
    • Proven, widely reviewed
    • Great value, slightly older processing
  • P8L (2026):
    • Newer tech and image processing
    • More refined Mini-LED/QLED implementation
    • Essentially the next step up in TCL’s evolution

🏁 Simple takeaway

  • C6K = 2025 model (older, cheaper, still excellent)
  • P8L = 2026 model (newer, more advanced)

🏆 Verdict

  • Best overall TV: 👉 C6K
    • It hits a sweet spot of price vs performance
    • Mini-LED + 144Hz at that price is hard to beat
  • Better picture quality (if you care about visuals): 👉 P8L
    • Better contrast control and processing
    • Worth it if you’re picky about image quality

If i was waiting the c7k or c8k picked back up on the dimming zones vrs what they did with the c6k but when i asked about those i was told not till Sept will they be here, that might be another angle to compare if waitings not a problem.
Or if your not in the 55" shopping zone i think the C855 would eat both the C6K + P8L for lunch but they only brought it in from 65" up here.

I think one of the things with these TCL's is they don't really default tune them better.
After adjusting black levels with this C6K it's much more respectable than it was, other 2 i've had didn't need to adjust in that menu other than brightness.
Got the 43 T6C working as a replacement PC monitor now & all is fine there also once i figured out my hdmi from mobo was only 1.4. With GPU now getting 60hz instead of the 30hz it was offering.
Hdmi input set to PC & text seems fine.
Dell 43 was going to be 20k+, T6C was 4.
