Ted Lassoes the Sun!

That's my stats for one month to the hour.

I still have questions on whether my solar panels are the ones I bought. I have seen the panels (4.4 kWp) only hit 4kw twice in the month. It seems to max around 3.8kWh on the good days at the peak hours. Unsure if I will only see 4.4 in summer.

Regardless, solar generation could have been higher which is impressive in itself I just end up having all jobs done daily and solar having nothing to do. View attachment 1364133
I've got 4.3 the highest I've seen is 3.6 also that was the most I was drawing though.

Funnily enough I have the opposite problem where I see MORE than I have.

Often peaks of 7.2ish on a 6.3kWp system.

But I figured this is purely an anomaly of timing and stats collection adding the two MPPT’s together.

Even in the Sunsynk app though I have peaks of 6567W today.

Panels are rated under pristine conditions. That means:
  • Azimuth is 0 degrees (precisely North)
  • Tilt (your roof pitch) is optimal for your latitude
  • Sun at 12H00
  • Panel temperature is at STC, NOCT, NMOT or whatever the spec quotes
  • Output measured at the panel (not 30m away)
  • Cloudless sky (and no haze / pollution)
All of these have an effect on a panel's production. If you have ticked all the boxes above, and are still not getting your money's worth, then it could be a panel with a faulty MC connector / faulty cell / not enough load / not high enough voltage to overcome drop.
Considering that you hit 3.8 / 4.4, it's doubtful, more likely one of the first four bullets above.

I have seen my own array exceed its kWp slightly only a few times, despite the panels' azimuth being about 5 degrees towards East and it being around 11H00. It doesn't happen too often, because I don't have maximum loads at 12H00 (my batteries are usually fully charged between 09H30-10H00). I ascribe it to cool conditions, high voltage arrays, and 6mm cabling, and not cloud edge effect (it's sustained for about 10m). And then again, I was looking for it, and created loads for it to happen.

It's negligible, short bursts of current, probably around twice/ thrice per day. It's not only Hubble, all Lithium batteries need juice to power themselves and perform their functions. The Hubbles are just visible to me because I have a Cloudlink.

That's not bad, remember that it is averaged out on the SS app, so even if it's a timing issue, the truth will come out when the stats converge..

Yeah I figured it’s just a statistical peak value from adding up at not necessarily the correct time.

I need to create the single value between PV1 and PV2 to feed into Home Assistant’s dashboard as the Sunsynk doesn’t output it natively.
 
So I finally joined the club although installation is not completely finished.
Sunsynk 8kW inverter, two Revov b100 batteries and 12 Canadian solar 455w panels.

Currently only 4 panels are connected that have restricted view towards north but they managed to generate 7.3kWh. Other 8 panels are facing east.
It was interesting to see over night that our consumption varies between 200w to 500w (checked it this morning and it was 120W at some stage)
Batteries were only 74% full and stopped supplying when they got to 40% yesterday evening.

SWAMBO is bit annoyed because I'm checking generation and consumption every 10 minutes, boys and their toys!

I am like @Snyper564 (IIRC):- for the most part. I pay attention a little bit, but it's working reliably well. Home automation routines working like a treat to maximise gen capacity.

Still have a fear that the 545w panels I bought were not the ones actually delivered/installed (kicking myself for not checking when they were delivered). Reason I fear is I expect that if the capacity is 4.3kWp then I should see that as a 'max' at some point in the day even if for a short while, but my facing north array never seems to be able to get near 4kWp gen. Max is about 3.8kWp (sometimes)

Regardless, it's generating 21kWh a day on average and meeting the needs, so not complaining too much (except for this inner debate on just buying another battery which my heart wants but the mind is saying no to)

Loving the automation side too.

My geysers and all lights are automated, love having kitchen lights on in the morning and lounge and library lamps on in the late afternoon. Then pushing one button and all lights but the outside lights switch off.

The LEDs pull so little power and with 4 batteries dont care much about many running 12-18 hours.

Grid too high I guess, but I have one battery so that is what it is!

A second (even 3rd) battery opens up so much more utilisation headroom from the system. It wont get you 100% off grid but it reduces your Eskom bill by a factor of 2 or so (don't quote me). Then when you optimise your home usage even further - the gains are there

Only if you have enough panels to charge the extra battery. My batteries get to just about 100% most days. Another battery won't help squat

ah yes- of course - that charging capacity is also key. Are you able to expand on your panels @Speedster
