Hi

I am trying to transfer my ADSL account to Axxess. They informed me I need Telkom to release the line for them to be able to complete the transfer. The problem is I can't get to the right department at Telkom. I made several calls to 10210 choosing any option not related to technical support, after awhile the call just goes silent and nothing further happens.
Does anybody have the same problem or can advice me on how to get Telkom to release the line for a ISP transfer?

Have you tried it?
I just get another blank page even tried a different browser

In my opinion it is very unwise to move your line away from Telkom for a few rands.

Leaving the line with Telkom allows you to chop and change ISPs without hassle.

I would not move the line if it were me.

I am having problems with Telkom not attending to my problems. My line was down for almost two months. They send a technician today to fix the line (problem was not on my premises) and my line speed is now 1Mb. I always had 2Mb and was told I could be lucky getting 1Mb. I am trying to move to another ISP as they indicate they will deal with Telkom I am giving up on Telkom. I am considering other options as I can't pay for services not working.

Had my ADSL line migrated to Afrihost about 3 years ago, when they first offered this service. Have used multiple ISPs on the line with no issue. For a while I was only paying Afrihost for the line and nothing else (i.e. no data package). I've also phoned and received technical support from Telkom for line related issues. Migrating to Afrihost gave me the best of everything: lower line rental costs, flexibility to change ISPs, get line support from both Afrihost and Telkom, make use of Afrihost's online tools to manage your line (fix line, test line, re-create port, etc).

I recall previously that MWEB and would not allow you to pay them for a line only package. You HAD to have a data package attached. So if you wanted to cancel, you had to cancel both your line and data package (rules might be different now). Not so with Afrihost, and with Axxess being a sister company to Afrihost, I'm pretty sure the same applies.

Can you still do all that stuff via the AH portal?

They've changed it around a few times. "Recreate port" is no longer there, but replaced with a "Fix my line tool".

This is what I am getting on my line. is it good or bad? The only thing I can see that is not right is the connection speed it should be 2Mb but taking the Attenuation a noise margin into account my line seems to be fine? Why is the connection speed 1280kbps
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1280 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 10.0 db 7.0 db
Noise Margin 51.1 db 27.0 db

I have a similar issue for just under 2 weeks now. Am on a 20Mb line, my stats indicate I shud be able to reach about 43Mb but Telkom sync reaches a maximum of 12 at the moment.

When this happened earlier in the year, telkom technician (after verifying my line is fine) finally called an internal department to "allow" my sync to reach the 20Mb level again. This is something the 10210 agents were not able to do for me, even with the port resets. Am awaiting for the guys to redo this after the techie made a similar call 2day.

I have a suspicion that the new Telkom system installed is to blame for this and has now decided again that my line is no longer worthy of 20Mb.

That is because the ASSIA DSMS system decided to set your sync profile lower. Had the same issue until I reached a Telkom manager that had rights on the system to disable it.

He told me that the ASSIA system messed up the phone lines of entire towns and was a very bad idea to have implemented.

Suspected as much. When I talked to an agent over the phone last week, he indicated a lot of ppl in JHB had logged faults complaining about their sync speeds. I guess ASSIA may be to blame for a lot of thse too.

This is simply ridiculous. My line stats barely give me a problem as I live quiet close to the exchange. Both the 10210 and field Telkom techies have always confirmed this too. But this stupid system has decided otherwise for a reason no one seems to know why.

Thank the heavens Vuma bringing fibre to my street around early next yr. Am aware of lots of residents leaving Telkom merely for their service levels, apart from the fact that Fibre will offer twice the speed and data for similar ADSL pricing.

Upon a client request, is it possible for Telkom to move the adsl line away from this system back to the original config? Due to my stats, there is no reason I need this system. Every time the system actually tries to help, it messes up my sync speeds!

Hard to say, I escalated a PE clients ongoing Monday morning problem where the line would disconnect every 15mins or so and was told it was due to ASSIA optimising the line to 5MB from 4MB. A techie based in Capetown has manually set the line back to 4MB and left me with the impression that ASSIA is now disabled on that line.

... guess I'll only know for sure next Monday ;)

Cool, thanks for feedback.

For me, a techie earlier in the year also manually set it back to 20Mb after ASSIA broke the line. I guess this was more a "reset" than a disabling act though as ASSIA is now back to its tricks.

I'll try escalate the matter for the system to actually be disabled, if possible, and also revert with results.

It will be reset next week. Expect another call.

Nope, seems Wolfgang ('twas his name) has done "something" as all is well this fine Monday morning :)

... unfortunately I'm not in a position to check what speed the clients modem is syncing at but it looks like 4MB:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3384 kbps (423 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 404 kbps (50.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

Hi MickeyD,

My ticket (54CRZ191215) associated with the issue I mentioned earlier in this thread wherein my 20Mb line is syncing at max 12Mb has been closed today. Even though issue is still there today. I've tried twitter (no response), telkom chat (they created a new ticket), TelkomZA in this forum (mailbox full)... am at my wits end.

You aware of how I can escalate for this ticket (logged on the 19th Dec) to be opened? I tried calling the 10210 number but gave up after waiting for several minutes.

My ADSL line has the potential of reaching 45Mb based on my modem stats... but Telkom's systems won't allow this to happen! :(
