Telkom 20Mbps ADSL network upgrades starting?

wonder if the after hours uncapped will max out a 20mb line also, will be damn nice, though doubt i will ever see 20mps, as i stay in residential area, with no business near by.

ROFL Garyvdh. PERFECT. everything from the ears to the nose to the light freckle spots. all you needed to do was flip the one horizontally for the same hair path =)
 
All I can say is blah blah blah... PE will get the trail and some parts of JHB, like Sandton.... as per usual. Nothing to get too EXCITED about really..
 
Very happy with my 10mb line and looking forward to getting 20mb speeds

Explains 1 thing at least. Why Pretoria's teccies are taking so dammed long to fix problems.

Telkom, fix the current infrastructure before you try getting better.

The two events are mutually exclusive. The techies you refer to do not do network installations.

The upgrades referred to in the article are ALL done by contractors, from the exchange side to the remote IMAX units (including the optic fibre connecting the two) to any new copper cable required in the local loop (from the remote IMAX to the subscriber).

The techies you see driving around in their Telkom bakkies will be doing their normally day-to-day functions. The only time they will get involved in the upgrades (as per the article) is when there is a new order for an ADSL service and the subscriber does not want to self-install. That is not a "network" installation but a CPE (customer premises equipment) installation.

I would say they are overworked (and sure some are useless) because the infrastructure is useless.
Fix that first before trying to go 24Meg

I'm under the impression that this is exactly the objective with the project as per the article (Delta Partners)?
 
the title (and content) is all about testing and rolling out new speeds...

Like sticking a turbo on a stuffed engine.

The higher ADSL speeds will be made possible by shortening the copper local loop through deploying remote IMAX units in the areas around the Telkom exchanges, which will then be back-hauled to the exchanges via fibre.

In cases where the copper quality is not high enough to deliver the higher speeds, copper replacement or rehabilitations will be considered.

According to information received by MyBroadband, Telkom is planning to speed up the improvement of broadband speeds and boost penetration rates by increasing their vendor and partner involvement, known as the Delta Partners Project. Telkom will involve their suppliers and contractors to step in where Telkom falls short on resources to serve its ‘network upgrade’ needs.

When will they actually fix the current issues?

I asked them this morning if they are planning to put an exchange od DSLAM near us any time soon "At least not for the next 5 years".

So I call bull.

They are obviously going to saturate the high revenue generating areas first.... meaning areas with a high business component! Residential customers always suck the hind tit.

This is for our business line in a very well established and very full industrial area.
