ADSL works on MSAN surely? Otherwise how am I getting ADSL on a VDSL network?

There is no such thing as a "VDSL" network.

Traditional Services Retained

The UA5000 provides all service ports required for a traditional network (including the POTS, ISDN BRA/PRA, E1, TDM G.SHDSL, V.24/V.35, E&M, FXO/FXS, R2, and two/four-wire audio ports). As a result, all traditional services are retained when evolving from a TDM network to an IP network, and subscribers do not have to change terminals.

The UA5000 supports various traditional private services on a TDM/PSTN network – as well as IP semi-permanent connection (SPC) and pseudo wire emulation edge-to-edge (PWE3) features – on an all IP-based network. This ensures that the UA5000 supports all traditional private services on PSTN, NGN, IMS, and FTTx networks without affecting services during network evolution.

The UA5000 provides a 32-port combo board that has the functions of the POTS, ADSL2+ and SPL boards. The UA5000 with a combo board requires less distribution cables and main distribution frames (MDF), which translates into less time on wire seating and easier operation and maintenance.

High-Speed Broadband Access

The UA5000 supports:
1) the ADSL2+ and VDSL2 technologies to achieve a maximum transmission rate of 100Mbit/s to the desktop;
2) EFM G.SHDSL 4-wire bonding technology to meet enterprise user requirements for high-speed service access;
3) Internet Group Management Protocol Versions 2 and 3 (IGMPv2 and v3) to provide MVLAN and IPTV services, which have become new sources of revenue for operators.

Asked Afrihost to make my 20mb speed upgrade to ADSL and not VDSL. Hoping it does not go pear shaped when Telkom flicks the switch

I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but are you saying there is a chance that if I buy a VDSL model instead of my ADSL2+ modem, speed / latency many be better ?

Asked Afrihost to make my 20mb speed upgrade to ADSL and not VDSL. Hoping it does not go pear shaped when Telkom flicks the switch

I'm syncing at just over 20000 kbps on an ADSL2+ router, it does work. I just asked telkom to set my line speed to 20mbps and provided no other information (ADSL vs VDSL, etc.)

That is exactly my conundrum now.

Got a fancy VDSL modem after happily syncing on 20Mb/s ADSL2+ for 2 years and asked Telkom to change the modulation to VDSL.

Now it is not syncing on VDSL, and they cannot switch it back to ADSL without getting a technician involved for some reason.

Also recently noticed that my max speed can be set to 20Mbps (I'm a few 100 metres away from the exchange). The article mentioned the price was R520 at the time. I think I'm currently paying around R420 for my 12Mbps line. Can anyone confirm pricing please?

As my line is with Afrihost, all I did was change a setting online in the clientzone and the line was upgraded 4 days later

I think it's 10210 if you're with Telkom, just follow the prompts to the sales/accounts department. (not sure which, assuming sales. Just ask to be transferred, it's a free call from your Telkom line anyways)
