Telkom 20Mbps ADSL2+ service

How do you know you're still on 10Mbps hardusb?
We've just been upgraded to 20mbps. The modem (ADSL 2+) is syncing at 18mbps and I'm getting these speeds on Afrihost capped account:

I suspect it's just a congested exchange or AH.

Try out with a 1GB account from afrihost/webafrica

ADSL Availability
Service Available
Maximum speed available in your area 20 Mbps
Your Current Service speed 4 Mbps

Lewisham exchange, will try today to get my speed upgraded.

Wow I am moving to Krugersdorp.:D

Lonehill max speed is 4mbps

I'm confused why my exchange does not support 20Mbps. Its a IMAX and its served by metro ethernet. Max 10Mbps for now it seems.

If you are connected to the IMAX then there can only be 1 issue - they need to replace the 32 bit backplane with a 64 bit one....

Ok cool. Interesting what does that thing do? I know the IMAX was served with a ATM link for long then finally 3 weeks ago they switched it over to metro ethernet. It pushed everyone up to 10Mbps but yeah no 20Mbps yet. The congestion disappeared overnight. Exchange was down for 1 week though.

Improves the throughput to enable the higher rate... same as a 32 bit vs 64 bit motherboard in your PC.

Hallo,

Thanks, after a lot of battles they did a 3rd port reset and now my speed is up to 18Mbps.

Nice!
I've been told to do the same. So correct me if I'm wrong - your modem was synching OK, but the speeds were around 10Mbps?

Telkom advises the Pace modem.

On my Telkom Mega100WR2 router I am syncing at 20Mbps but am seeing 1.2MB/s download speeds (9.6Mbps) assuming no overheads.

I guess I'll be buying a VDSL router with backward ADSL compatibility

Yes, modem was syncyng at 20480 and my speed I got was only 10Mbps. The guys at Webafrica helped me out really well. They had me do a speedtest through the telkom guest account also and everywhere I strike the 10Mbps wall, like the line was hard coded to it. After a days tests they did a port reset again and my line speed was 12Mbps, then after a reboot it was on 18Mbps speed test, even though it syncs at 20, but 18 is fine, worth the extra R100 a month.

You just need to hang in and fight it out. I struggled in the past allot to get my line stable (Was dropping every now and then), after allot of struggling they eventually got it stable.

Upload is 1Mbps. The download speeds I posted were 17.2Mbps which is 2.05MB/s

reading that initial post properly would have helped.

but interesting to note that a adsl2+ modem is getting you that high a download speed. which modem is it btw?
