From the above I think you can safely assume that you wont be able to use a DO ADSL account on the 3G service. And the prices are basically the same as Vodacoms...

The prices are amazing. Thanks for the breakdown.

I'll check with them if I can use the Do 3G on my fixed line then, either will work for me, as long as i get local free on both.

thanks.

I will check with Telkom on if there is any chance to use my Do 3 on the move.

The prices are amazing?... How do you figure that?

There are a couple of limitations with the system...

For one, their pricing is only MARGINALLY cheaper than VC's, but the system doesn't support Softcell handovers which is obviously one of 3g's BIG selling points.

Coverage will be incredibly sparse for awhile.... and those are "contract" prices.. so prob 24 month contracts, and I can pretty much guarantee that you won't get free local on those accounts... esp since they're obviously trying to slightly undercut the Vodacom pricing, but not having all of Vodacom's benefits with 3G....

Plus, given Telkom's zero commercial experience with cellular networks, how stable do you think the network will be?

For starters:

Vodacom R649 p/m for 3gig - Telkom R489.00
Out of bundle rate Vodacom R1.00 - Telkom R0.30c

Telkom would most prob allow to exceed cap at low costs.

vodacom coverage at best 3g in pta and Telkom most prob as well.

there might be a chance to benefit from having an existing Do3 and fixed line.

this is tlkom... They will rape you... And since they don't have to pay their own ridiculous line charges, those ?prices are ridiculous...

I'm not saying vc Are great but they're a lot better than telkom.
And why get telkom 3g when I can almost guarantee u the coverage is in areas with wimax or adsl

Went to Telkom Direct shop yesterday. No one knew anything about it. But I don't blame the front end staff, I blame their managers!

It is good to see some competition on price although I am not certain that the 10% to 25% discount will be enough to encourage people to migrate to another provider. The out of bundle rate can however be a big draw card!

What is strange is that both the devices on the website dont support HSUPA while the Telkom network is HSUPA enabled. Maybe an outdated webpage - does not make sense to limit upload speeds (or any speeds at the higher data prices).

U most likely can use any type of USB adaptor. Since their network is HUAWEI, I am pretty sure any type of Huawei device would work. They may offer FEMTOCELLS soon as well.
