Someone sent me this in email, can anyone confirm this, has anyone been upgraded?:

Telkom is trialing an 8Mbps ADSL service, but said that it will take some time before the service is commercially made available.

The company said that doubling the speed of its 4Mbps service is not a simple process as it must be accompanied by suitable backhaul upgrades to the network to support the higher access speeds.

The company is also trialing ADSL2+, mainly aimed at supporting Telkom Media’s IPTV plans. ADSL2+ can support speeds of up to 24Mbps.

The higher speeds most likely form part of Telkom’s strategy to increase the usage per ADSL link to homes and businesses.

In March the company’s CEO Reuben September said that Telkom is planning to ‘own the client’s home’ through its home gateway where ADSL plays a pivotal role.

The company plans to grow its ADSL subscriber base to 637 000 in the 2008/9 financial year and to 773 000 in the 2009/10 financial year.

* Prices will drop between 10% - 18%
* 1 meg (4meg) will be increased to max. 8 meg
* 512 will be increased to 1 meg
* 384 will be increased to 512
* 8 meg max will have upload speed of 1 meg
* 1 meg max will have ulpload speed of 512
* 512 max will have upload speed of 384

Then as far as TelkomSA Do Packages goes (ISP):

* Do Broadband 1 = 512 line speed, 10 gig international, 30 gig local (Not blended), unshaped from 18h00 to 8h00
* Do Broadband 2 = 1 meg line max, 15 gig international, 45 gig local (Not blended, unshaped from 18h00 to 8h00
* Do Broadband 3 = 8 meg line max, 20 gig international , 60 gig local (Not blended), unshaped from 18h00 to 8h00

(Do Packages are home dsl users, business dsl will be unshaped between 8h00 and 18h00)

Will be implemented on 1st September.

bleh oh well...got excited there for a min, thinking it might be worth staying at Telscum for another 2 years...

The rumor has been going for a while, but I'll believe it when I see it from their mouths.

We had a whole thread about this,
Guys had "contacts" who confirmed this rubbish.
Their "contacts" lied...

bleh... I am not so worried about the speed. All I want is a majorly increased cap. Lets say 100GB (intl). I mean really, how hard can it be...

I got happy until i read the comments.:(

Me too... For a second there I read, "accompanied by suitable backhaul upgrades to the network" and had all these optimistic thoughts flooding my mind of them finally fixing/upgrading/whatever the DSLAM I'm connected to. But nooooo....

*goes off to cry in a corner*
