Telkom ADSL key performance indicators Q3 2011

Loss has increased but pings decreased. Is this the Telkom Internet (do broadband) stats or SAIX/Sat3 wholesale stats?

Just saying "Telkom" is a bit vague as they are two separate companies.

These regulations are largely ignored by Internet service providers (ISPs), and to date only Telkom and MWEB have done what the regulations require.

Surely the ISPA should have this as a requirement for its members?

Telkom’s current contention ratio for ADSL is 20:1, but the company highlights that “the contention ratio does not remain constant as it fluctuates as the service grows and more customers and infrastructure are added”

So we're in effect paying the same price for an ever diminishing resource as more customers are added? How is this legal?

my exchange in thornton, cape town, is totally overloaded during business hours. im talking of pings in the 1000s. started about a month ago. makes gaming, voip, skype useless during the day. ffs

Telkom ADSL key performance indicators Q3 2011

We compare Telkom’s ADSL key performance indicators over the last twelve months

Q. Is there any auditing of these numbers?
Q. How are these measurements done?
Q. How can we verify these measurements?
Q. Why don't they [-]measure[/-] report download / upload speeds vs connection speeds?
Q. Why is the national jitter (12.36ms) greater that international jitter (1.06ms) (12x difference)?

These number seem to be different from what actual users are achieving:
See myBB List-of-congested-exchanges:

for what real users get.

READ: More uncapped customers added so expect a 20:1 ratio.
According to http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za average download speeds are about 50% of advertised speeds.
Perhaps we should only pay 20:1 of the Telkom ADSL line rental? ASA anyone?

The fact that there is 12x variation on the national vs international jitter indicates serious overloading locally.

The correct term for jitter is Packet delay variation
