Telkom ADSL speed increase project concluding

Everybody that I know personally with has ADSL has been upgraded. Most people on the forum report being upgraded too.

Good job Telkom.:D Now get those final few customers upgraded quickly and put a MSAN in my area!:)

+1

Mine was NOT upgraded!
Which suits me just fine, they talk about the "router not being connected" when they do this.. Dumbasses, do they really think I am going to leave my ADSL plugged in while at work/away, and run the risk of everything being destroyed by lightning? Idiots!

So you switch off your router in the morning and on again in the evening? Seems more effort than running the risk of losing a router every now and then.

I have cancelled my ADSL since the 'upgrades'. Line stability and exchange congestion was just too much. Opted to pay a bit more, get a little less data and commit. My Telkom Mobile LTE 50Gb package is fine, downloads are between 15-20Mbps and stable enough pings for RTS gaming (210 to EU).

Here is an example of someone who doesn't know ANYTHING about electronics.

When my router got hit, in all cases, it went right through, to the ethernet ports, and then further "upstream"
Computers on switches had their ethernet ports blown aswell.
There is no damn way I am leaving routers connected. For what, to come home to find the TV, XBOX, computer, alarm system, and just about everything destroyed?

You also don't live in the area where I live, where several items exist that actively attract the lightning. Nor have you experienced a direct hit firsthand.

No thank you.

I think it will take Telkom years still to get us poor guys stuck on 4mbps (for 7 years now) to higher speeds.

No need to get insulting!

No, I don' live where you live (thankfully).

It just sounds like a stupid system where you have to switch off/ unplug stuff daily to protect them from a fairly common atmospheric occurrence. You are not stupid - the technology is. I like people who look after their property.

I happen to have an above average knowledge of electronics, although it is by no means my day job (again, thankfully!)

Those forum users that were on 384kps/512kps/1Mbps/2Mbps have been upgraded.
Those that were on 4Mbps on exchanges that only support a max of 4Mbps, have not been upgraded.
Only 12% of exchanges support 10Mbps.

And those that were on 10Mb have been "upgraded" to 4Mb :(

First world problems :D ... I can't get an ADSL line :(

When I complained that my stable 10Mb line had been upgraded to an unstable 4Mb line I was told that it may become necessary to remove my ADSL line 'cos Telkom couldn't guarantee the service ...

Yet another example of Telkom's new customer-centric approach
