Telkom and Netflix in talks: source

Amazing news. I'm just wondering how Telkom will screw it up. How will multichoice react to this move?

Well maybe this time we'll be lucky & nobody screws it up. Hell I think we're way ahead of our quota for screwups this year already as a country so I think its only fair if this works for once.

How will multichoice react to this move?
With a bullsht lawsuit or some random anti-competitive practice I'd imagine...

I imagine Telkom and Naspers will have both a spat in public and some big behind closed doors discussions if this goes through

to fetch Walker in Texas?

back to topic: imagine the tantrum from Naspers if Telkom makes it possible to obtain Super Rugby etc ... without Multichoice

Yes anyone can peer with the Netflix Open Connect Content Delivery Network but look at the peering requirements
10 Gbps Network etc
Hardware
Current Peering Locations
Don't care about that to be honest. Throw enough money at the tech and it'll work.

More concerned about the legal aspect. We could end up with a crippled portfolio full of "this video is not available in your region".

another very cool thing about this sort of direction is if FTA channels are all available over VDSL - for several reasons if you have an OpenView HD setup you won't have your DSL streaming but it makes the proposition of FTA television a lot better.

It will make it worthwhile to cancel dstv and upgrade to 10Mbps line....
No sports channels on Netflix and no series channel (Hulu)
Just waiting for 40 Mbps VDSL in George - so used to 10 Mbps DSL

Erm, we can already access Netflix though? Setting up UnoTelly takes 5 minutes and is $4 per month. Been using this for months for Netflix and works great.

Telkom recently started using transparent DNS, effectively nullifying Unotelly and Unblock-Us on their network.
