I agree IC. The real problem here is not Telkom, its the lawmakers and the DOC. Telkom is simply taking what is being given to them. They are afterall a business. A simple solution which would not require much legislation and monitoring would be to simply open up the ballpark and let anyone with the right kit come play. In a word: COMPETITION. The only effective telecoms legislation in this country is that which prevents and/or deters competion.

Trying to legislate Telkom is an effort in futility. Let them try sell a product for R70 when the shop next door is selling something comparable for R20.

WHY THE FLUCKING HELL DOES TELECOMS HAVE TO BE SO FLIPPIN LEGISLATED???

I have no doubt that ICASA planned to make the regulations vague. Telkom knew this and during the first recommendations of the regulations you could see Telkom had no real fear of it being a major issue or even tiny blip on its radar.

Whoever Telkom lobbied or canvased was well worth the effort.

We need competition! Companies should be nailing eachother at ICASA instead of consumers vs one company.

ICASA was warned not to be vague. I pleaded that they be very explicit to avoid this very situation.

I have no hope that things will change to a satisfactory degree. We are not even talking about a win - lose scenario, let alone win - win... We have a rape - be raped situation here...
