Telkom attacks CCC authority, ADSL Regulations

ICASA are taking telkom to court about no meeting the standard - thats correct thing to do... now why wouldnt it be good if they won. Means free local bandwidth for use.
 
Excuse me while I run off to the loo - while I'm at it I may as well wipe my A$$ with branded toilet paper which has Telkom's logo printed on it...:D

This shyte will only happen in South Africa - Today, I'm sadly, very sadly South African. :(

This is getting ridiculous. At some point we're going to have to admit what the ANC had to admit: that being nice and lawful ain't going to make this better. Viva! Free Nelson's Bandwidth!

Also it's unique since it'll 3-ply, synonymous with 3GB! One difference is that it'll be affordable to the masses giving it a higher penetration rate than ADSL!

(no pun intended on the word penetration)

Telkom will run out of international bandwith just before 2010 they will be held responsible for then they will say...

"We asked consumers if they had enought they said yes and we belived them" ....yes its true folks TELSCUM is sooooo crap they cover lies with more lies!!

Telkom is NOT in ANY way POSSIBLE doing thier best they want to give the least and get the most.

The ADSL regulations took more than two years to draft - then when it finally came out the two-odd pages of regulations were pathetic.

The "no local cap" directive should have consisted of at least a page or two, not a simple sentence.

Blame ICASA for dragging their feet and letting the Friday-tea-lady draft the ADSL regulations.

From the start of the ADSL hearings to the final drafting of the regulations, cunning old Telkom changed they way they ran the business insofar as most of the regulations are no longer directly applicable to Telkom, as much as they are to ISPs. In practice, of course, nothing has really changed. But semantically, they will do the utmost to weasel out of compliance.

I still maintain that we will only see significant improvements in ADSL delivery and bandwidth pricing when we have adequate competition in the wholesale market.
 
I always telkom is arrogant but hell! this takes the cake and the whole flippen pie bucket too!


i must say they do have good lawyers! :D

I agree wholeheartedly. Another article on its way about the ADSL Regulations and how the whole process basically means that consumers should not look towards ICASA for help (just waiting for feedback from ICASA, Telkom). Only true competition can solve this problem.

Who do we look to for help? The DoC?

The whole situation makes one feel so powerless to do anything. Even if we had the money to lay our own submarine cable and local infrastructure, we'd probably be stopped in our tracks by Ivy.
 
I think things will start to change ALOT once Neotel is actually playing ball with Telkom.
Right now, they are like hiding in the background, as soon as they step up, and people start moving over to Neotel, Telkom will wake up but as we all know, It's already too late for these slimy stingy SOB's!

I feel sorry for all the people who are currently employed at Telkom, their jobs are so on the line!

It makes me depressed every time news like this comes up.

And we can't do anything legally.
 
Telkom is sacking all their contractors (+- 4000 in November) and +- 6000 employees by 1st of Jan '08. Wonder where their "service" levels will go to then.
 
Wish the "Laugh it Off" guys were still around. The printing of Telkom company logos on toilet paper is actually a good idea. And I am sure there are many others that may be interested in doing something similar for other companies, e.g. iBurst, MTN, SAA, Microsoft, etc. In that vein, Telkom's slogan should read: Poach Tomorrow!
 
Who do we look to for competition?? Neotel!! Telkom are f**king them up without them even starting yet. Now how does that work

Tell me about it BTTB- it was intense concentrating on all the back and forth legal ramblings- every so of the the former judge on the panel had to decipher the arguments from Telkom for the rest of us.
