Hi all

Been fighting with telkom to fix my ADSL line for the last 2 weeks and have finally caved and transfered my telkom sim to use the smartbroadband deals for some slightly more affordable internet in the interim.

Now I have the option of a very well price secondhand B315 with telkom branding. Is this device locked to telkom only? just for future proof incase I keep it as a backup and change providers.

And I see this one is white and others are black. are there different b315 model specs or are they all just as capable.

All I know is that there are different models, and they determine which network bands you can pick up.

If memory serves the B315-936 is a good one with lots of bands.

And no, it won't be network locked .. shouldn't be able to be.

cool thanks, guess ill have to look at it to see the actual model unless someone can tell me by knowing it is the white telkom branded unit

I'm using a Vodacom data SIM in a Telkom B315.

My black one in only different to my white one in that it had a inline battery that can power it for 2 hours (according to the documentation).

Yeah I came across that, but cant see what the differences are between the 22, 607 and 936

I'm guessing they are virtually identical given that the firmware comes in one package for all', I may be a little naive in thinking that.
Would love the battery backup, but for the price i can do without it for a temp solution

There is a whole long thread on them somewhere here on the forum, so your assertion holds untrue.

searched multiple times and have come up empty, don't suppose you know where its hiding?

EDIT: May have found it, didnt search outside the telkom thread

Generally, Telkom sells unlocked devices. And from what I've seen, they're compatible with frequency bands from other networks. I'm not so sure what exact model the Telkom branded ones are, but Telkom sells the B315-936, and I've used every Network except Vodacom in them, because who who uses Vodacom for data ? Look underneath the device to verify the model number.

Thanks everyone.
Seems I should be fine anyway, im using a telkom sim for now and its a telkom router.

If i happened to move to another provider, worst case I get a new router.

Thanks again for the quick responses

Me! :D

30GB for R329 deal they had last month. Yes, Rain is cheaper for more data, but cannot be used as widely as a VC contract.

Hehe, we give Vodacom a lot of (well deserved) flack but that's not so bad, it's not great, but not that bad. So there you go, support for all networks.

Stoked, got home slapped the sim in an boom signal.
My signal isnt great there where I plugged it in and got 25mbps down and 1.5mbps up
Will play this weekend and see if I can get better speeds, but not an issue for me, my primary is 10mbps Adsl

it is the 936 version

yeah this is a white version, paid R300 bucks so a nice cheap and quick solution to me not having internet for 2 weeks and counting

Really? I have a B315 Black but was not aware that it had an internal battery. Pretty cool
