Telkom Capping: Your feedback needed

I also did over 10GB in December without being capped, whereafter I promtly failed to stop the download of two Debian DVD images and got 5GB on 1 January :eek: ... don't ask.


btw, in past years I understand it was possible to buy some more bandwidth. Is this still possible? I now feel like the electricity is cut off (GPRS now) and really need a quick solution to get just another 1GB till the end of the month. I know you can buy (by recommendation of ... you know, the unspoken ones) another username but this is not quite what I'm looking for now.

I forgot to mention:
I got capped the 16th. So the 17th there was no traffic. The Telkm tracker reports it so correctly.

BUT, it seems that on the 17th the total was 9.7GB, and now 10.6GB.... I most certainly did not view adsl.tlkomsa.net enough times to get that much traffic...

AFAIK the only way to get more bandwidth from telkom is to buy another account i.e. username. I would suggest you buy a prepaid account of 1gig for R75 from webafrica which you can topup if required and if not fully used gets carried over.

Thanks. Got an account active in less than an hour. Now I just need to get the ADSL password right - I chose my own and have a feeling it generated one for me. The authentication logs on Web Afica shows me trying to conenct but wrong password. I got my chosen password in a confirmation email.

Still, once it works its probably the best thing I've come across yet.

Bear in mind that my contract doesn't cap me, ever. If I hit my limit, I am billed R6.75 per 100mb (excl VAT) and I can just keep going and going. Debit order comes later and that's when it hurts :eek:

Hi

I think that posting the exact date that you were capped is also very important. If the capping by Telkom is being done when the average user download reaches 3Gb, then groups of people (perhaps by region/exchagnes...how ever Telkom chooses to group the users) should be getting capped on the same date. One may have reached 27Gb, another may have 15Gb...both being over the 3Gb cap limit.

I have noticed that on 2 months I (Jan and Feb) I was capped on the same day (11th)...this does raise some doubts about their "average-based" cap limit.

Looking forward to other users experiences about their capping date...

U know, werent there a news saying telkom needs to go via international link for local traffic sometimes when the loads get too heavy?
So just a theory...maybe they cant differentaite between the two traffics and they do like a mass check on certain days of the month?
