Hey peeps!
We've recently installed an internet connection at home and everything works well except for one seemingly simple problem: only one of our laptops can connect to the network!

The problem is certainly related to how the network accepts passwords (ah-hmm, sorry for the laymen talk). Only one of our laptops will be accepted into the network, while the rest of us get an 'invalid password' prompt whenever we try (my sister was able to get in once, but only once, after which her laptop could no longer establish a connection using the password).

I've solved the problem for now by doing the 'sensible' thing and just turned off the password, its the only way to access the net, and we need it regularly.

If any of you have experienced this problem, if you know whether its caused by the router we use or our ISP, leave a comment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you change your network's password at any point? Try deleting the network under network and sharing center (assuming you using Windows) and then try connecting again.

How old are the laptops/devices connecting to it?
Sometimes older devices dont play well with WPA2 and require WPA or WEP.

I've reset the password numerous times since we got the net. I don't think it has to do with the password itself.

The laptops we use are all up to date. In fact, the laptop that is able to connect is the oldest one in the lot :/.

You've reset the wireless network's password? If so, you may need to delete the old network as it's stored and sometimes it causes an issue because of that. Not sure why but I find that usually fixes the issue.

Resetting the router has not helped. The only thing that worked was my mother contacting Telkom and getting them to set up the router. I have no idea what they did, but when they were done we had a new password and it there was no problem connecting to the network. Anyway, the router had to be reset again and now we're back to the same old. Any idea what Telkom may have done to the modem to fix it?

I'll say again, resetting does not help! The factory settings of the modem appear to be what is causing the problem**.
