Hi hope u all are well. Thanks for all the helpful info on this forum
I hope somebody can assist me in solving an issue or point me in the right direction...
So on thursday i call telkom to complain my line speed is extremely slow and they tell me that i am on level 3 FUP. According to them i had downloaded 935gigs which is not possible. When i checked on the customer portal it shows 935Gigs but the funny part is that 700gigs was done between the 12th to 17th December and i only have a 10meg line. Been on the phone with telkom call centre and sent a few emails to [email protected] but no reply. Looks like the only option is to wait for the new month so it can reset?? Thanks in advance

Just within the realms of being feasible. Maybe you should see what the family is up to?

Not sure if I worked it out correctly, but one could only download 432 gigs in 5 days so 700 gigs shouldn't be possible in 5 days.

It's 6 days not 5: 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. (10/8)*60*60*24*6 = 648 gigs, if telkom adsl is working perfectly and you sync on 12Mbs: (12/8)*60*60*24*6 = 777 gigs. Maybe 700 gigs is possible.

I would suggest changing your PPPoE password. Ensure your router and wifi, if any, is also secure. Change passwords to not default on router. Change wifi passwords too.

Is the 7 Night Surfer hours per day counted against total FUP usage though?

Also, I've been reading that Telkom's usage portal is reporting inaccurate stats lately.

Read the fine print. You should be able to determine if night surfer counts towards the calculation or not.
Then as already suggested. Check to see if someone else is connecting to your setup and change all those passwords.
As shown the calculations indicate that the usage is certainly technically possible.

Had a similar problem 2 yrs ago with Telkom ADSL. They tried to convince me that someone was hacking into my WIFI which was BS!
Changed my Telkom password, and it stopped.

So, by implication, someone inside Telkom was using your account?
Surely that is why the default passwords on devices should always be changed once the service is up and running.

In your telkom portal you should be able to see if there is unknown dslam connected to your account during that period.

The dslam identifier should also include a phone number connected to it that will show you what if any other user abused your account and report it.

One of the first places checked, only my own number showing, which is why I suspected Telkom.
Usage was occurring at times when I was asleep, and my router switched off.

Happened to me December 2018 and January 2019. It's trelkrom.

When i checked on the customer portal it only showed my landline number... no other connections. Also i know that nobody else is downloading except for updates on a game or 2. I usually get an average of about 8meg speed so i find it highly unlikely to have done that amount in one week. My nightsurfer data is on 80gigs usage for the month. And still no feedback from telkom

I have the same problem, except they're saying I did 300gb on a 2MB line. You can login to userstats.adsl.saix.net to get your real usage.

Ditto OP. But when I read all the **** you are getting I will rather stay quiet.

Bye-bye Telkom, have switched over to Fibre, Afrihost/Vumatel. Fortunately closing the Telkom account was painless, unlike others who seem to have endless problems cancelling Telkom.

Have personally seen telkom employees pitch up to lans with multiple text files full of PPPoE usernames and passwords. As in over 100 accounts per text file. People use to share these username and passwords when connecting to the internet at lans. When one was used up just move onto the next. I was like 15 years old when this happened so didn't think much of it. Thinking back one realises just what was going on. Anyways, change your password regularly. It's a must.

Well that can't happen anymore.
