Telkom deal is disaster

"We are sitting here and observing a disaster," Nzimande told the Black Management Forum's annual conference in Johannesburg.

"Why do we sell Telkom to Vodafone? Our only real major asset is going to be controlled by the British... this asset, Telkom, we sell it to imperialists."

Good thing this idiot is not anywhere near Foreign Policy.
Money grubbing fsck!

"They are no longer South African companies. Just like Telkom shall never be a South African company again for as long as it is in the hands of Vodafone."

  1. He said more state-owned enterprises needed to be created.
  2. "[For instance], Sasol. It's making obscene profits. That's why we are saying, let's nationalise Sasol. We must be able to control somehow our own resources."

1. We don't need state owned companies! You may - but not ME!
2. More proof of the ANC's, money come first agenda.

We need competition and the stakeholders who can deliver it!
What the hell has Sasol's profits got to do with goverment?
They're a business, doing well (ok got a fine for price fixing :p ) and are capable on their own!

FFS! Does this idiot of a man not know how his comments could affect foreign investment in this country?
Or is he simply putting it out there that he needs a bribe before he lets "Imperialists" do business here?

Seems our "Blade" is fscking dull!

Sounds good to me. Telkom's done a marvellous job of showing us how brilliant a South African company can be.

Wtf is this dumb knob on about? Telkom is a listed company, i.e. it is owned by people who buy shares in it. It just so happens that the government own the majority share.

Besides that, the retard seems to think that by Telkom selling off it's Vodacom shares, somehow Telkom is being sold to Vodafone. Somebody find the man a brain donor that isn't missing the left half.

@Nzimande - u r such f'ing retard. The unbundling will be the best thing ever - whoop whoop here comes better competition and lower prices - FTW

This deal has nothing to do with Telkom being sold. It is Telkom selling part of it's own share in Vodacom, in this case only 15% of it.

Where was Blade more than 10 years ago when Jay and crowd were peddling Telkom to SBC of America?
Too little too late now to start grumbling about spilt milk. The damage is done when our Government sold Telkom to the Yanks and we feel the repercussions everyday in this country in the way of poor service and lack lustre products and the major shareholder who has one major conflict of interest in regards to making the laws through the DOC which govern it's own asset.

What I cannot understand however is the fact that Telkom has 50% of Vadacom at this stage and a hold over Vodafone be it just a 50%/50% equal say in the business. When Telkom releases the 15% it relinquishes it's half say in the business which may not be a good thing down the line. I would think Telkom needs to sell all or nothing?

The way Im understanding it, Telkom is trying to maximise its profits by unbundeling. This is like selling off the parts of your car as spares. They don't have control anywayand could never get 51%.

The rest of the company,15%, they sell to Vodafone. Hopefully then they can p_ _ Off and let progress happen.

I can emagine a political cartoon with Ivy on Blade's lap. They would do well together.

I was happy with your post and your condemnation for this idiot who clearly knows very little about business but then you seem to have used these comments to attack the ANC. As far as I can read the person who made these comments was an SACP member and not an ANC member... Yes, they have an alliance with the ANC but I am sure that some things they say are frowned upon by the ANC.

In fact these comments are expected by Blade when you see the SACPs manifesto :

The South African Communist Party was founded in 1921 and has always been in the forefront of the struggle against imperialism and racist domination. The SACP is a partner in the Tripartite Alliance consisting of the African National Congress and the Congress of South African Trade Union.

Again it is funny how the ones who shout racism the loudest are usually the biggest perpetrators of the deed!!

What a tool! Good thing this idiot will never be more than a factory sweeper.

I think we should nationalise the Communist Party, and put all its money under the control of the Minister of Finance. I trust our elected representatives much more than this running dog lacky of the former imperialist Soviet hegemony who's never stood for election.

Its amazing how someone can embarrass themselves so badly and then go into the limelight the next day to do the same thing again.

Once again you fail to see the bigger picture. Foreign investors consider statements like this to come from the ANC if any of their so-called alliance partners utters it. Maybe you noticed the rand going into free fall the last week. Statements like this does not help. Ultimately the ANC is responsible as they cannot keep their alliance partners (in crime) in check. It is time the ANC publicly distances themselves from these alliance partners and ideologies.

Nzimande sounds like a relative of Mugabe.
Damn imperialists

When last i checked gov was the major shareholder in Telkom and yet their prices are ridiculously high.. clearly heavy gov ownership does not help

I am astounded that the likes of Blade Nzimande see fit to make comment on the communication sector when they clearly cannot determine which bodily orifice one is supposed to use to make such comments.

Yes, lets nationalize all the money making companies like Sasol!! Then have the ANC run them!! It worked so well with Telkom and Eskom.

If telkom wasnt goverment owned, the communist party guys might have had internet and access to the outside world to realize what happened to the nations build on communism. The only people that can make communism work is the chinese, and comeon, ive met us, we are no chinese.
