Try being a gamer playing BF2 on a 3 gig account , you wont last a full month playing even a few hours each day , you are being limited ONLY by your free time AND by telkom . What happens when you have free time ? You cant play because of your local hard cap , so what is the use of it then ?
Just because you use more than 3 gigs in a month does not make you and ABUSER! Telkom ONLY plays monopoly ! They dont have any idea on the amount of money they could be making both now and in the future by embracing a few important facts ! Steve White please get over yourself , your new policy for gamers and p2p users will still be crap ! What we are all forgetting here is telkom CANT and WONT offer a free local soft cap , why ?
They are not that stupid , well actually they are , why bother with diginet ? 7k a month for a 128k connetion ? OR Datapro's uncapped 1 meg account for almost a 3rd of the price ! If you are in a buisness then it makes no sense to pay 7k a month for 128k , but rather far less for a 1 meg uncapped , more speed for way less! If everyone buisness went to adsl rather than diginet , then the diginet market would go belly up.
Now what about those who work from home ? We have to cover for the loss of income for the diginet that is why IMHO we are still paying a line rental , because each company that goes for diginet means 7k less a month , now think about that if adsl did not have a line rental , why bother with diginet at all ? Adsl is faster and cheaper and for that same reason it is being milked to maintain income . I am not sure of this just a thought but if someone could maybe find out it might open up a few more thoughts on this matter .
For example for the last 2 years how many people/companies had diginet ? How many of them still ? What has the market growth been for digitnet in the last 4 years ? I doubt it will be greater than then 100 000 adsl users , remeber not all adsl users are home users some companies use it aswell , so if telkom lost 10 000 diginet users , who went to adsl that means they lost
7000 0000 a month , how would they regain that money ? Charge the same people 10 000 people R680 a month R6800 000 it is a loss , and i am sure my maths is correct or else my OS calculator is wrong , then also you dont limit the amount of local data , so companies across sa can run on R680 a month rather than 7k a month , excellent for the ex diginet users , not so good for telkom , they lost a cash cow . So how can they get back to making more money , simple limit the amount of local data , and nail the folks again . Lets work on the mweb type adsl , wont take much to get back onto diginet then would it ?
Now what happens if telkom does not have to charge the monthly line rental ? Gone is that income , then the only way they could make money would be to limit the amount of data you can recieve and transfer , so their next "great" step forward would be to drop the line rental even more , but increase the amount they charge for data transfer , yup that happened 1/11 , so now when they say we are dropping prices even more , it is another hoax , cos they have already added more cost for the b/w , lets face it who would pay 7k a month for 128k that 2.4k for 1 meg uncapped ? Diginet though not shapped and i am not sure about the 1 meg uncapped , why pay more for less ? Simple so telkom can get back the money it is loosing because of itself , some sort of irony in that hey .
Once again telkom is its own worst enemy , now if they had any brains they would find a better way to market and sell diginet , but they cant it is old news and not the way of the future , the way of the future is adsl and now telkom needs to get ways into making up for a huge loss , we are all paying for their stupidity .
