Telkom denies ADSL capacity problems

the big question is then: Considering we are paying per GB, why are there still different speed types (384/512, etc)

They are actually preventing us from spending money on their network...

Hmmm, on my SAIX accouint, it is impossible to watch youtube. Takes easily 10 secs to buffer 1 second of video.

So, either its capacity issues, or its one of:
1) total incompetence
2) shaping

Standard FTP to an IS server is full speed on my line, so its not my line quality.

So, Telkom, please choose option 1 or 2 from the list above, or provide me with a valid #3.

My internet was slooooow on the last two days of the month. But I mean extra slow last month.

Local was fine.

'Steven Lewis'

Is it a prerequisite that you must be called Steven to work for TELKOM.

I've been using 384K for over 1.5 years now and the only time i got downloads below 35KB/s was in October 2006 when there was a nationwide ADSL issue. Mind you, I'm only on 384K, users on 1Mb+ should more easily notice degradation.

Telkom also fares a LOT better than other broadband providers in the speed-consistency department. I can't even begin to explain my frustrations with 3G. At times it flies, most of the time it's high latency and poor throughput.

Telkom’s recent annual report highlighted that the company has increased its ATM network capacity to 104 Gbps - an increase of 30% over the previous year - to cater for increased ADSL services.

Telkom has also grown its national and international IP network capacity by 53% to 28.9 Gbit/s and 60% to 2.4 Gbit/s respectively. The SAT-3 cable’s capacity has also trebled to 120 Gbit/s from 40 Gbit/s.

Steven Lewis, Telkom executive for technical product development, recently said that Telkom is anticipating massive growth in the amount of bandwidth on their network. He said that bandwidth demands doubled in the last two years, and that it is expected to double every 6 to 12 months in future.

So demand is expected to double every 6 - 12 months, the number of adsl users has nearly doubled, and they have increased the capacity by 30%,50% and 62%?

Not suprisingly that means that they are indeed bursting out of their seams and that their current growth rate is not sustainable. Another screwYou from Telkom.

My daughter staying in Centurion applied on May 10th for a line and do Broadband beginning of June the answer was no Ports maybe beginning of August last enquiry end of September. She cancelled and got Vodacom 1GB very fast. So that is the way Telkom handles increase in ADSL

How does Telkodemonopolies account for and explain this increased demand for bandwidth? - could it be that the average ADSL customer uses much more than the alleged 1.4GB per month that Telkodemonopolies claimed was the case nearly 2 years ago? Has ((ADSL subscriber numbers) * (1.4GB per month)), really grown that much in the last 2 years to require a doubling of required bandwidth? Or is it just that Telkodemonopolies didn't have the local capacity to start with due to under-investing and paying out huge bonuses to upper management and special dividends to shareholders...

For the past few months now, on the last 2-3 days of the month there's alwars problem. Not a bandwidth issue??? My ___!!!

So, either its capacity issues, or its one of:
1) total incompetence

You must be mistaken - Telkom? Incompetent??!! :D

To all the Telkom Stevens:

Please come kiss my ass, because it is obvious that you're talking out of yours. Friday and saturday it got so bad that I couldnt even open MyAdsl or El Reg. Maybe you should check your facts before making statements that makes you look like an ass afterwards

screw you and no regards

my take on this:

-Authentication is so slow these days... squeezing 9999999 people thru 1 gate - A:capacity problems

-Average speed comparison vs that of verizon's network - road with maintenance regularly , smooth traffic vs - road with almost 0 maintenance , lotsa traffic problems -A:capacity problems

-Oversell of saix/telkomIP xxx:1 vs yy:1 A:$ greedy - capacity problems

erm ja.

My experiences using WebAfrica SAIX the last 10 days or so has been HORRIFIC to say the least. ISDSL Local and IS-International has been perfect but timeouts on international saix and slow slow transfers, absolutely terrible.

I think telkom needs a serious upgrade on their international links. Pathetic service.

Telkom is the master of lies.... need i say more?

Has anybody experienced problems with GoogleEarth in the past couple of weeks?
I am using Home 384ADSL . Another friend of mine in PE also using the same service reported access problems also.
Checked with a friend in the UK who replied "no problems".

GE is too choppy to even consider using on my HomeDSL313.6kbits/s line, I have the same with youtube streaming...

Uhm, a week before the end of the month my browser constantly told me that the connection was reset on every second site i visited. It stopped on the first of this month. I should be mad at telkom, right?
