Hi all,

Anyone in the Sliver Lakes/Tyger Valley area of Pretoria having the same problem I am having trying to get Telkom to fix their network ?

Router servicing the area subject to maintenance on 29th Dec. From 30th Dec our internet connection has become Sunusable because of poor latency ( this by the way is a 4Mb line which is synched to the DSLAM and has pretty good attenuation and margin values) to a local SA site

Should be a pretty simple root cause right ?

1. Link from DSLAM is faulty
2. Someone stuffed up the router config when performing maintenance
3. Router and/or link is overloaded

Have reported this 6 times to Telkom and they still keep closing the ticket without dispatching an engineer to investigate or resolving the issue.

Any suggestions on how I can get them to resolve this issue as my ISP Web Africa is unable to help either ?

Thanks

Mibboy

I'm in the same area and have not been able to connect reliably once this week. I have to keep on switching my router on and off to get the internet connection up although the router syncs fine. On Tuesday I could not connect at all and logged a fault with Telkom, who is also my ISP.

The card at the exchange was apparently replaced today, and now I can at least connect although usually after rebooting the router once or twice. But, my download speeds are a joke- 0.1mbits according to speedtest.net. Upload speeds and pings are OK and this all on a 4 meg line.

Telkom thoughtfully closed the fault this afternoon but I have just reopened and escalated it, so here’s hoping for tomorrow.

I have the feeling that the guys who might know the true root cause are still on PTO and the resolution will come when they are back. I live in hope but having once again get back on the phone to reopen my own ticket does not fill me with much confidence.

My connection back to normal. Must have been sorted late on Friday afternoon.
