Telkom explains slow ADSL speeds

I'm sorry - I don't believe the crap Telkom is telling about "end-of-the-month". As far as I can determine the local Verizon network is also slow (if somebody can confirm this, it would be great).

I suspect that they got a BIG problem on their physical network.

IS is also slow and most people would have used up their international caps by now.

For crying out loud! i can't say how mad this makes me!
So mad that nuking T'head office sounds good

I think this whole thread is useless purely because everyone is trying to get answers to something that we all know in the end. Simply put Telkom is LYING and turning us into SUCKERS by making enourmous amounts of money for jam!!! Thats the answer right there :) forget the rest, we all know the truth but we still can't believe it because its hard to imagine being schnyed so much.

You right there Jonny boy! Telkom doesn't give flying rats ass.

i moaned at them last night, not getting my hopes up at all.

Horse manure, my ADSL line is like that every frikkin day.

Lets see quick, yesterday, the last day of the month I battled to download an update from HP using my 512K adsl line which should run at 50K/sec right!

It was running at 2.7K/sec or somewhere around that blistering pace. ;)

edit edit: And just before I get accused by an entity of being a bandwidth hog and p2p junkie, here is the download in question. Step 3
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=79477&os=228&lang=en
Driver/software for fax/printer thingy.
Downloaded that file from HP at 2.3kB/sec while downloading a 660Mb
file from Oracle at 24.7 kB/sec on my 384 DSL line not great at all.

I had a line problem yesterday (our fault), but once that was fixed I put the downloads back on, was gettting full 450kb per second the entire day yesterday afternoon. I dunno bout 1 threaded downloads but I had a couple of files in FlashGet going.

knock p2p all you want, but today mine was left running the whole day, ( I have a 4mb line by the way) and all I got was 50MB downloaded!!!, and these were popular files so sources can't be the problem (I have in the region of 1100 sources on the 8 files I'm looking for), and seeing as its the 1st and not the 31st I doubt thats the problem either, so what gives.

Telkoms sucks plain and simple

Ill believe Telkoms story when I have proved to myself I am the Fairy Godmother - what a load of **** from Telkom! tThey must really think we have no intelligence at all! Telkom is trying to compete with Eskom for the most unbelievable story of the year.
Thoroughly disgusted and - "proud to be South African?"-
not with the poor service ( or rather lack of service) that
we are expected to "appreciate". How the country is going to survive till 2010 escapes me.

We did however increase the international bandwidth temporarily to address the end of month peak, which is a normal monthly occurrence,” Telkom said.
The system is as bad as it was 2 years ago when they tried all kinds of blocking and tampering to reduce and slow down bandwidth. I would not be surprised if they are trying again!

Increased "International" bandwidth? Where does it come from now, they always claim its fully utilized and overloaded, Another one of their lying schemes to keep prices inflated.

RPM to the rescue! :D Thanks RPM for the article, I must of missed it, I was really getting ticked off yesterday, I was trying to show someone something on a website (locally hosted) and it just bogged out, for about an hour this happened.

This is not just international related, they can tell that to their mothers, International was dog slow, yes, but the fact remains it was local as well.

I was ready to give telscum a call then suddenly things went back to normal, I'm not satisfied yet, since I normally synced at 640 - 384, now I sync at 512 - 256, this was done last year November, without my notification, I haven't taken up the issue yet ;)
