Telkom explains slow ADSL speeds

International bandwidth se gat. I have local customers on GPRS trying to connect to a local host through the internet. The speed is so *** that 90% of the time they cannot even make a connection and if they are lucky enough to connect they get zapped by Error 10053 and timeouts

I have been downgraded from 4 to 2mb and the problem has only got worse because now those TCP packets have no chance of getting through in time

When Eskom bombs out at least I have a generator, but in this case we are at the mercy of these idiots no matter which route you take

Just goes to show... Keep lying and it catches up with you.

On the one hand telkrap are stating that the caps are there because of the high cost of international bandwidth. On the other hand they state they had to purchase more capacity to compensate for usage.

SO WHICH IS IT??

Next we'll hear they pay for speed and volume.

Anyone in the know will tell you that they pay an international access charge and are NOT billed according to usage. So capping is merely a way of protecting their flagship Diginet moneyspinner service by crippling ADSL.

With regard to the **** service of late: (As apposed to the normal bad service, which is at least almost tollerable)

1st scenario: There is probably some damage to their network due to the heavy weather of late (therefore local and international is affected) and they're either too cheap to fix it, or simply too incompetent and understaffed.

2nd scenario: (More Likely) The network is simply overloaded and peering links saturated, causing huge amounts of time-outs and disruptions. In this situation, it will continue until they upgrade these links, for which I wouldn't hold my breath.

In the meantime they'll blame everyone from China, their customers (evil bandwidth thieves) to the pope, because as usual, they are the model company and have done nothing wrong, are not greedy, unethical dishonnest extortionists, and are totally correct in their actions.

(For any telkom representatives reading the above paragraph, please look up the meaning of the word "sarcasm")
