Well I've been having problems on my ADSL line since November (sudden drop in my line stats and crappy speeds) and have been logging calls on a monthly basis which just get closed without a technician being sent out. Here is the history:

Reference Number Symptom Status Date Logged

5*CTK180412 Slow Access Open Wed Apr 18 08:31:35 SAST 2012
51*CTK130312 Slow Access Closed Tue Mar 13 12:56:40 SAST 2012
76*CTK070212 Intermittent Connectivity Closed Tue Feb 07 17:39:38 SAST 2012
33*CTK240112 Noisy Closed Tue Jan 24 10:28:23 SAST 2012
79*CTK100112 Intermittent service Closed Tue Jan 10 17:55:18 SAST 2012
58*CTK091111 No Access Closed Thu Nov 10 14:59:46 SAST 2011

I also spoke to the accounts department in order to get a credit for each month I've experienced the problem (basically getting half, or worse the speed I'm paying for namely 4mb line). But they require a technician to confirm this before they can do it which puts me back in the evil loop of logging calls which will probably just get closed again even thou I request them not to close it if a technician wasn't physically at my house.

Anyone got any advice on how to resolve, esculate the problem as what I'm currently doing is not working

Thanks

I don't really have advice as I'm in the same position as you.

My 4mbps line used to be great for about 2 years, had a cable break in Jan and since then it feels like they routed my line through some donkey's backside. Strangely some days everything works relatively fine for the max 2mpbs I can sync at, but then just the next day I get download speeds of 6kbps or just no throughput - websites don't open, downloads stall etc. Dunno if my exchange's congested, doesn't seem so from latency test while things are bad but during those times my pings and downloads keep failing, speeds are up and down like a yo-yo etc. Sometimes a modem reboot helps, sometimes not. I read WA's been having problems but I get this issue on WA and Telkom bandwidth. I've logged 7 calls since Jan, had Telkom out to test the line, twice, they say it's fine. I even replaced my modem 'cos the tecnicial said its faulty .. which it was not.

I've been taking my own speedtest stats and I get speeds consistently below 1mbps with the occasional spike above, so I logged a fault with Telkom last night asking them to monitor my speed over time so I can log a dispute with their accounts dept to reimburse me the difference between what I'm paying for and what I'm getting.

Seems that's all one can do really. I thought to apply for a new (additional) line in the hope that maybe it'll work better, then cancel the old one in a month or two. I've read some people complained to Icasa, dunno if that would help.
