The Telkom rep I spoke to said no as you sign a 2 year contract, but taken with a grain of salt as the same rep had initially said fibre wasn't available in my area...

With Vumatel do you pay an upfront installation cost and have to sign a 24 month contract???
 
Is no contract an option if you buy your own modem?

Do you still have to pay for phone line rental?
 
Vumatel is month to month, no contract.

But yes there is an install/connection fee (R2,499) which includes the CPE device
 
don't think anyone got a call back from telkom from the looks of it....

Current info is that the symmetrical VDSL and fibre will be released later as a business focussed replacement for diginet. I'm guessing the consumer flavours of these technologies will not be symmetric.

Looks like 100/10, but will this be for all line speeds? Having 20/2 over fibre is pretty pointless..
 
A telkom rep called me back to say that although fibre has been installed in our area (Gillitts, Durban), only 20meg line speed is available and not the 40 that I asked for.

I confirmed the price with her again and she confirmed a price of R849 for the 20meg line with the 50gb soft cap.

Apparently I should receive a call later this week to arrange installation.

I got 40Mbps VDSL a year and a half ago when there was no coverage on that site.

PM Charl or ask via social media, those guys seems jacked up on actually helping you.
 
Telkom guy quoted R1799-00 exl VAT, with VAT it comes to R2050.86-00 for the 100Mbs deal
 
I was prepared to order the 100Mb, but they want 2 years contract... which I am not prepared to sign. So I'll wait until they get their act together and really offer what the client wants!

You won't get a company offering fibre without a contract in the next 10 years. It's just too expensive to implement.

What they could do is offer month to month with a setup fee. But be warned it will be around R8000 if not more.
