It appears that Telkom have reduced the thresholds on their various products before throttling kicks in. On the plus side those of us that do not use huge amounts of data regularly are experiencing a much better product lately.

:D

If it was predominantly P2P or suspicious/illegal/abusive activity, then that explains it.

If it were illegal/suspicious or P2P, I think its none of TI's business what I do on the net, I don't require a breakdown on the costs they incur due to my usage, I pay them for unlimited internet access, and I expect unlimited internet access, irrespective on what I use the internet for.

However I digress, being in the red does not necesarily mean illeagal suspcious usage. Recently a game was released - Wolfenstein: The New Order the download alone is almost 50GB, then there is Call of Duty MW3, which I have to redownload, that is 14GB, Battlefield 4 @ 24 GB, can you see how this is spiralling out of control?

Then add the normal streaming on YouTube and [-]NNTP[/-] Browsing.

Yes it is. By using their service, you agree to their terms and conditions.

Ok, I'll concede this point, I'm not doing anything illegal according to South African law.
Thats wierd coz I have pulled more than that yet I'm only halfway.. 4MB account

Plot twist, care to share your usage figures with me? When have you done the majority of your downloading?

+1 I'll download what I want, if the ISP has a problem I'll move. But just in case I'll use SSL and PeerBlock ;)

I have done the majority of my bulk downloads between 23:00 and 06:00. I been trying to keep out of the red as streaming in HD can pull mega gigs very quickly.
Between my 8 year old and I we stream an average of around 4-8GB a day, so its becomes necessary for me to schedule my NZB's to the "download more" hours so I dont run foul of the throttle police. So far its working for me :D

It sometimes unfortunately doesn't matter if the law states it legal. If Telkom classes it as abusive, then they have the right to throttle you, because you agreed to it. Try using a VPN I guess

I can't even get in touch with Telkom to cancel this waste of time uncapped account.
Is there no other option besides sitting on the line to 10210 all day?
Do this morons not realize we have jobs to do?

who are you moving to?

I'm not sure yet.
I just want to cancel.
I have signed up with Crystalweb; have a Vox, afrihost & axxess capped account.

Pretty much been testing a couple finding Afrihost capped bundles to be the best bet but still not perfect by any means.

Done 240.035 GBs (4Mb Account) this month and now I have moved into the red section on the usage tracker, now where were my suspicions that TI tweaked the usage thresholds?

View attachment 121129

I was on the RED from the 23@303gig 4meg line and 4meg data
wanted to see how far I can push the Bar .
Throttled now first time since I left the 1 meg line last year .
Done 377 gigs speed test 0.40-0.90 mbps

I dont want to download anything for a long time
Ok I did not plan any downloads from 12-6

Some Telkom technicians were working just up the road today. Our line went down for about an hour, but came back on, and speeds are looking great again. I made a chrome extension to automatically disable YouTube Dash mode (where it only buffers if you're viewing the tab), and the buffer bar is about twice as far as the current time. Twitch isn't too bad in comparison to normal. Ping's hella lot better too.

Thanks, Telkom!

Thing is that the new Throttling policy is destroying the service ie unable to do basic internet browsing eg checking gmail.

so I've found a solution. I log a fault daily. As far as Im concerned the service is unusable and broken.

NB issue is not the speed its the poor service ie webpages not loading etc.

Does anyone know how Telkoms Cancellation policy works? Do i need to cancel 2 months in advance or how does it work?

I got an answer at the cancellation department after 50 mins. YAY! Seems they have a one month cancellation policy, which means, it will be cancelled by the 28th of June and next month will be the last month billed. I'm so happy right now :p

When I cancelled in the past they used to terminate the account right there on the phone

Yip. My first session with Telkom ended like this. Cancelled with immediate effect. When I got home after work, everything was off.
They have realised that they can screw customers out of another month's subscription though. Purely money-making.
