Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I have had full line speed for 3 days now, absolutely flying. Typical as my cancellation should take effect any day now. I hate isp shopping.

I'm considering leaving for Mweb premium again (totally put off by the combination of calendar month notice period and spontaneous 30 day throttling), or afrihost business uncapped.
Browsing speeds are extremely slow today, literally loading a page takes almost a full minute.

Any other means then phoning 10210 to cancel some unwanted services and to move my line to a new location? Seems the cancellation department don't want to pick the phones up.

Go to a telkom shop and call from there, it's a lot quicker than 10210 from home. At least this is the case from our local telkom shop.

You can try using the phone lines inside Telkom stores, they can bypass the queue and possibly help you out. I made a fuss on social networks for a week and a half before someone helped me.

Well, after a s#!tload of phone calls to telkom support, numerous conversations with normal representatives, supervisors, tier 2 support and even a call back (2 weeks later) from the "almighty" administrators, someone at Telkom finally admitted to me that my line is being throttled. I would love to post every single detail about all the conversations and fighting over the phone, all the hours I waisted. Some calls/conversations went on for more than an hour. Id rather not as I might end up breaking something or getting a stroke. I asked every single person I spoke to at Telkom if I am being throttled. The answer was NO every time. Now all of a sudden, after a 2 week call back (a lot of tantrums), I get a call back stating that I am indeed being throttled. I have never in my life had to restart my damn router so many times in 2 weeks whilst these "geniuses" were trying to "fix" my line. Now all of a sudden (after no one mentioned anything or picked it up whilst troubleshooting the line), the administrator says that I am being throttled. Sounds like a bad excuse or maybe they just gave up. I have done 180GB so far this month (double checked on saix user stats). I am on an uncapped 4Mbps package. Definitely canceling.

This is more or less my speed for the past 2 weeks (4Mbps account). This is what I'm paying R705 for:

I trust you have learnt your lesson, and, that you haven't signed a contract?

Go with IS (not OW) as they are the best bandwidth providers (IMO) around. I suggest connection.co.za as they are damn cheap, but mainly because they don't have a 30 day policy (if you don't mind that then WA is also an option), but if you find their accounts too restrictive, then I would give Plugg's higher priced account's a go, coming from a satisfied 4mb uncapped averaging 300GB/month customer for over a year.

EDIT: Or even connection "business" which is R100 cheaper than WA.

I must admit, I haven't tried this so can't comment.

If the lesson is to stay away from Telkom internet then yes, lesson learned.
Luckily I did not sign a contract. Cancellation now in progress but I have to sit out the 30 day policy. Does anybody know where this is stated in their terms and conditions btw? Can't seem to find it.
Thank you for all your info. Will definitely look into your suggestions. Let the shopping begin. Ai ai.

Prior to 2014 you could cancel immediately via 10210, some MyBB members not paying by D/O have reported having the new 30 day "clause" waived.

I dunno if anyone knows what's happening, but now it's happened twice that my internet suddenly goes really unusable, and the router syncs at below 2meg, and then I phone Telkom and they do a port reset and it's fine for a day.

It's not the ISP account because it's the same when I try another account, so it's something happening to the line.

Either a line fault or exchange congestion.

I would monitor your SNR and attenuation figures and see if those are stable first, if not then log a "noisy line" fault online @ telkom.co.za, hopefully it's not your exchange, coz if it is, then cancel your ADSL and get wireless.

Streaming was abit choppy today, but torrents look fine - a little up and down typical of a Sunday.

I switched over to a free WA 1gig account and my ping is 182ms, on TI it's over 400.

You suck Telkom
