Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Hi, would one of you kind sirs/ladies, be able to tell me about the Telkom Business Uncapped Premium+ account, is there a rolling window period / star system / threshold....I would like to know the limit on this account before I decide to move to Telkom as my ISP...

Well i imagine it will be the same as the home accounts but with a higher threshold. Telkom works on a month to month basis, no star system but they have a tracker bar, that goes from green to orange to red. On home accounts downloading from 12am to 7am doesnt effect this bar, im not sure how that works with business though. Ranger will probably be able to offer more details.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated....
I'm assuming that all usage count towards the bar, including streaming( youtube and twitch tv )?
What about downtime on the network, do you guys experience more downtime than any other ISP?

Excuse the ignorance. On softcap so do my downloads at night. But isn't torrents at zero from 7AM till about 1Am on uncapped anyway?
Around January torrents were fine at any time. This is a new policy which people seem to be experiencing differently, perhaps depending on province. Telkom seems to be about the only ISP completely blocking torrents until after 1AM (it used to be 12AM), throttling gaming and even simple video streaming. Browsing is just about all it's best at, and that is also unreliable at present.

Yes, all data outside of nightsurfer time counts toward the bar. Not sure if social media sites are excluded though, but YouTube and other streaming services are definitely not.

WRT downtime, like any ISP, there are up's and downs. I was on the verge of cancelling after horrible internet for about 2 or 3 months, but retracted it when things started to get sorted out. The one good thing I can say about TI, is that the unofficial rep, ranger, does his best to update this thread with any known issues and doesn't feed anyone BS like the other reps on the forum. Final decision is yours at the end of the day.

Not sure how many on this thread actually subscribe to TI's business package, but from the standard home package, before throttling kicks in, you can do :

+/- 150GB on 2MB
+/- 200GB on 4MB
+/- 300GB on 10MB

Those are/were the thresholds as far as I can recall. That may or may not have changed, maybe someone else here can provide more clarity. Saying that, if you schedule your downloads between midnight and 7am (nightsurfer time), it has zero impact on your usage, meaning it doesn't count toward the above thresholds, so if you plan accordingly, you can do a helluva lot more on those accounts.
OK, so we now have two people who either don't use uncapped, or just don't notice that downloading starts at 1AM.
Please confirm that you actually have this service?

Do you have to provide a calendar months notice before leaving?

Nobody that has replied so far has the Business Uncapped product. Send a pm to user "ranger" and ask him about it.

I've shown you proof that my torrents are almost never shaped even during the day (i can open it up now and get full speed). Shanezn and i are both Durban based so we possibly have lots of extra IPC capacity available.

I am up the hill, my downloads run pretty much same speed during the day and night like yours,

So thats three of us then, makes sense since they have recently upgraded the IPC.

My DLs during the "non-Nightsurfer" hours are very erratic. One day I'll get nothing, the next day it will be at close to line speed.

In general it is poor for me during the day. Fortunately most of my DLs are completed by the morning so it is enough to keep my busy until the next day.

I usually dont download torrents during the day anyway, it messes with my usage tracker. If i need something urgently i will often just use my Afrihost 20gb capped account.

So if you live in a different province the service is great or pathetic for the same price.

Yet this ISP is the one providing that IPC?

Its no different to any other similar service, Vodacom's product in Jhb isn't the same as in PE. As always in this industry its never fixed anyway, just a month ago Durban's service was probably the worst of the lot.

I actually don't use torrents, so I can't comment on that, but http dl's fly on my 4mb. I have issues, and it can be frustrating, but I can't fault the support received from ranger or TelkomZA when I report it.

Ai Telkom, what the hell. Many sites not available, including google, however, no problem with my free 1 gig afrihost account!
