Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Use the telkom chat, did you move? Using a different number than the original? Had similar problem and it was due to the account locked to my previous telephone number.

No I haven't moved, but I did think about that - I have my account opened for use on two different numbers.

But as of Wednesday at 9pm it works on neither of my numbers and neither of my modems. Web Africa works on both modems and both numbers.

It is plausible that something has gone wrong in this area and this is why the service is locked. But they said the account should be ok with either number from what they can see.

I didn't mention earlier that they also tried sending me a new password too - that didn't help either.

Hoping ranger can work some magic for me!

Tried that, seemed to hang on connecting for a while, now it says please hold for next available agent. Will leave them my number - been starring at that for 5 mins.

Didn't know about this service - will try them before 10210 for sure next time.

Might be because its weekend and less consultants available.

From personal experience i rather wait 10mins on the chat than phoning the 10210 number. And a huge plus is when you order new or upgrade existing services they phone you while on the chat. Sorted my TI pw and upgraded to VDSL in 30mins.

Thanks - have done so. Will report back if I get somewhere, hopefully I can save someone else the headache if there is a quicker way to resolve this.

I got my problem sorted out by ranger.

As I suggested might be the case - it seems I was suspended (probably because I paid a bit late, but I had actually paid about 24 hours before I got suspended - just checked that). So they seemed to have on the system that my account was ok and I had paid, but the process of unsuspended me must have gone wrong.

In ranger's words - "accounts that were modified during a 4 hour period on Thursday can't have changes done via normal processes."

"It looks like your account should have been unsuspended in this time, but wasn't."

"I have fixed your account up on the backend, so it should work."

So the moral is don't pay late, and if you still get into difficulties don't waste too much time talking to 10210. Log a fault so someone with more expertise can get onto it. Or just come and find ranger - that's probably going to be the quickest.

Torrents are dead, 10kbps and I'm in the green still. They seem to shape p2p to death these days.
 
Can't stream anything above 360p on youtube, have not tried other sites.

Same here. Http downloads are also dreadful. Been this way all weekend. Get around 30kbps on the dl, and YouTube starts at 144p then hits 360p max and buffers, Crazy.

I dunno what's going on with TI but the one thing I do know is that their service is going down the tubes. If there were any ipc upgrades then it did not help either.
 
OK so it's not just p2p then. I can't even YouTube 360p. What a joke here in joburg.

Their network is pretty schitty at the moment. I can get around the p2p issue to a degree but even then it fluctuates wildly, still better than nothing though. Because things fluctuate so badly is the reason why you can't get decent streaming or anything else for that matter.
 
No problems with p2p here in PE during nightsurfer (touch wood), TI hasn't had many hiccups for a while now in my neck of the woods even during load shedding.

Interestingly, around the same time, I downloaded some Nvidia drivers, and it came down at a fairly constant rate of about 400kbps. YouTube still suffered, and a 47mb WeTransfer dl really struggled at around 20-30kbps. Weird.

I've tried everything from different router, pots filter, phone lines etc. and nothing

Been on hold numerous times only to hang up after 30minutes+

going to give that online help a go and see

Yes, there's currently an issue in kloof, technicians attending.
