Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Does anyone know the threshold for an uncapped 2meg account? I thought it was 200GB but I'm starting to think it's more like 120GB. My current usage normally wouldn't be a problem, but lately I haven't been scheduling downloads during Nightsurfer, so this was expected.

Also, how does the management system work now, in regards to throttling and whatnot. I get this message when I log in to the tracker: "Please note your account is being managed as per Telkom AUP", but I haven't noticed any actual slowdown. I'm assuming this is a first warning, and that the second warning is when they would cut you off completely, unless you sign that agreement, or have they stopped doing that now? I remember that was a big thing a couple months ago. I've always wondered, what actually happens when the bar reaches the end of the red zone?

Also, should I still make use of Nightsurfer, or would that not be a good idea? Seeing as I'm in the red zone of the tracker.

I just wish all of this information could be made transparent. It would be much easier as a customer to know where I stand.

I have not seen any useful answers to your questions.

Also Telkom don't know their ass from their elbow, so they them selves have, seemingly no idea either.

Getting "server not found" errors on my browser now, something fell over.

TI DNS servers seemed to fail just before 10:00, now I'm getting authentication errors.

Switched to WA capped backup for now will test TI again around 10:30.

We saw a loss of traffic from 09h50 to 10h20 in all 3 regions. DNS servers were working. We are not sure which is cause and which is effect, still investigating. Nothing failed on our side (but SAIX is still operating recursive DNS for us; this will change in a few weeks).

I was told it was 80GB.

Very few people currently know the exact values, and certainly no-one who answers a phone has the values.

We aim to be much more transparent about this in about 2 month's time.

If this happens, as you are reporting, I for one will be impressed, as it implies a great deal of improvement within Telkom .

Thanks

Thanks for the information. :) I look forward to finding out some more details.

While I'm here, would you mind explaining how the management system works with regards to over-usage and throttling, as far as you're currently allowed to. For instance, when you get this message in the tracker: "Please note your account is being managed as per Telkom AUP", what does that actually mean? Is it still recommended to use Nightsurfer, or should you just stop downloading all together? And what happens if, hypothetically, you reach the end of the red zone of the tracker. I'm not planning on getting there, but I'd like to know what will happen regardless.

In order to ensure that the account owner or authorized sees the notification that fair usage enforcement is active, all traffic except http traffic will be blocked, http traffic will be redirected to a page on tracker, where the user needs to log in and acknowledge the notification.

Once the notification is acknowledged, you will be limited to a lower speed 24x7, depending on your package, but not less than 384k, until the end of the month.

A lot of these aspects may change soon too (as there are obviously some shortcomings).

My line has been dropping about 6 times an hour for the past few days. The DSL connection drops but comes back up after about 30 seconds.

Is this related to the authentication issues some people are mentioning or is it something else?

Also, it is syncing at only about 2.5 MB instead of the usual 4.

@ranger Any idea whats up with the authentication side of things?
