Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Bad? Not from an ISP perspective. No complaints here. Most of the complaints you see here are ADSL line related (congestion, etc) and should not be in this thread.

What line speed?

Usage? Browsing, streaming, downloading?

My complaints should definitely be in this thread. When I switched to vox account my line cleared up instantly. I haven't checked this new problem I am getting, will tonight though and see
 
Trying to find a more reliable internet connection, internet refugee mode, are things still bad on Telkom (going by latest posts)? How is uncapped? Only use around 200gigs a month. Thanks guys.

This thread is pretty quiet compared to the other isp threads & many people mistakenly post here about line related issues. It's probaly the isp with the least issues if one looks at the activity in all the other threads.

Definitely looks like congestion, try testing with a free 1GB WebAfrica/Afrihost account to confirm.

Thanks guys. Mainly busy on it from around 9am till 2am. Ranging from browsing, gaming to downloading (no torrenting) and streaming (youtube etc). However, roughly monthly usage is around 200gigs a month, sometimes under +-160gigs more like it, averaging around 4-6gigs a day. Current line speed 4meg. Practically live next door to the exchange so no line issues (besides when congestion happens or routing going up the pole). Budget max of R400 for ISP. Any ideas?
Thanks for the assistance, I see many are feeling the bad connections from the various ISP's, not sure what the heck is going on but any advice on possible ISP or if Telkom is a good "home" for now would be helpful.

Past internet history, dial up 1200 baud, 14k/28k dialup, ADSL 128k (omg!) moving up to 2meg capped, then uncapped, then the decline of service begins, back to capped but up to 4meg line (2meg avg. in real experience)... now barely moving... next? Dial up? Packet radio? .... I got matches and blanket for smoke signals too...

After some checking...

Seems the Telkom uncapped 4meg line might be the only one I could get:

... TelkomZA has been able to assist in some cases, send him a PM with your ADSL line number so it can be tested.
 
i also desperately looking for a cheap solution, between 400 and about R500. i have no voice line installed yet.

However, my needs are strictly streaming, no Gaming, no heavy downloading apart from maybe a few android apps etc and thats it.

My concern is that for those basic needs, is that alot to pay?

Problem is - I have yet to find a ISP that is consistenly good, they all have their issues. Streaming works then it has hick ups - no matter whether it is for streaming, playing online games etc.

As far as cheap goes - by my definition it does not exist. If you could get "naked" ADSL - one could start getting packages that offer reasonable value.

But until FTTH happens - that is not going to happen. Consistent service or reasonable value.
 
User changing from a TI capped to a TI uncapped account...

Do they keep the same username?

If yes, what must the user do to activate the uncapped account?
 
When I upgraded my 50GB capped onlinexxxxx account to 10MB uncapped in Jan '14 I was forced to take a new account name, mailboxes I wanted to keep from the capped account could not be moved and I now pay R15/mth each for them.

Back then they did everything at the Telkom shop and when I got back the office I just logged on with the new account details (I already had a 10MB line and had just cancelled my axxess 10MB uncapped due to the MTN fiasco).

"Internet box" - that's an interesting technical term, seems to cover all the equipment from your router to the server at saix - and you only experience the problem in the evenings. Did this come from the TelkomZA team, 10210 or the guy in the van and what are they doing about it?

If you haven't already try the Telkom ADSL Helpline on 0800 375 375 (I'm guessing business hours only).
